I would like to get some wire of various gauges to add details to my armor. Interested in both items like pull handles on the side of turrets, as well as wire that adds detail to engines.

Not sure what to buy or where. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Not playing favorites, but Micromark sells soft brass wire in various diameters for just this purpose.

.020 for example would be 3/4" in 1:35 scale

I have found the largest selection at Home Depot and Lowe's. Look in electrical and lighting. Best thing about it; no shipping charge.

If you live near any new housing development, you can probably scrounge up a lifetime's supply of wires of all gauges from their scrap pile if you ask the Foreman nicely.

I usually buy fine jewellery wire at Micheals.

I agree on a local craft store. Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Roberts should have lots of options in fine beading wire. Even Wal-Mart has a selection. You can get copper, brass or steel in different guages.

Separate but related question: Can I solder photo etch to these types of wire?

I believe so. I've seen the brass wire soldered. I imagine the others can be as well, based on the electronics boards I've seen.
