The Croats made the same during the Balkan war. They transformed a lot of tractors and trucks in armoured vehicles

Now that I reconsider it. yes, I doubt that they've used a proper amount of decent armor plate. And of course the first 14.5mm MG or RPG will probably cut through this like butter.

Well, yes but considering that rebels don't have any armoured vehicles, that's better than nothing. All in all that kind of weapons could be quite effective against infantry troops staff cars and trucks
