Think I'll stick with the original. I mean, the cassette was even red.

I saw the original but never owned it until DVD.
I'll check out the new remake. Who's the new 'enemy'?

It comes out in theaters 21 Nov. The new enemy is N. Korea, who along with China, invade America.

Red Dawn 2012

The original is a classic and a great movie. It displayed our greatest fears at the height of the Cold War.

I hope this version is as good as the original.

Maybe I'm a pessimist, but we all secretly know it probably won't be. It'll be good for a current movie though it will never be the original. Plus I'll miss the soldiers pulling into the McDonalds drive though, "I want cheesburger! I know you have some in there!"

Nice one, Sal. Maybe it'll be on cable by 4th of July.
From the TV commercial, it looks like city warfare instead of the Rocky Mountain locales in the original. Is that the new vogue thing? I know, just like the original, it's meant to be trite patriotic fluff for teenage movie-goers, so I won't bash it too much... until I see it, that is!

Owwww, I just hope Alec Baldwin is in it -- he was such a believable natural as Jimmy Doolittle is the unimpeachable movie Pearl Harbor!

I hope it sticks to the guerilla war tactics the teens resorted too in the original knowing this remake in this 'call of duty' modern warfare era I'd hate to see the teens deploying predator missles from a hacked laptop coz that would destroy all credibility for the film for me still love the original though so might give this a watch if it ain't to OTT

Hi there,
can someone explain to me how the hell red China and north Korea can kreep around half the world without any body noticing?
At least the original could of (believably) happened.
Even M. Dougles recognised the "yellow terror" in Falling down, so they canŽt of come from the inside
IŽll still watch though just for the fun aspect

Its called the "Willful Suspension of Disbelief." Most movies rely on it, otherwise, noone would bother to go see them because most are BS in the reality department.

Umm.. I wouldn't go so far as to call the original "great."
Entertaining maybe, but too many errors in Soviet tactics of the day made it one of those movies you like to watch with your buds so you can laugh at it.
Interestingly though, the CIA got involved when they heard of a T-72 being trailered through the streets when the movie was filmed. Of course it was just VisMod, but not a bad one.

For the general public, it WAS great. Most people are not students of military tactics and the movie addressed the real fear of an invasion by Soviet Russia, as well as how it may be handled by civilians.

What in the world could MGM have been thinking? By casting North Korea as the enemy in this remake, they've ruined our relationship with that country. Even the Great Successor himself will probably take great offense; in fact, Pyongyang may even boycott the film. So much for the lucrative North Korean box office! MGM can just kiss those won goodbye.

They hide 30 million soldiers in Trumpeter and Dragon shipping containers and just walk onto the dock in Los Angeles!

Only if you count the North Korean manufacturing of ICBMs to be a step towards peace.

I read that North Korea was picked AFTER initial filming because the producers realized the Chinese are a movie-going people and would likely cause 'issues' if they were the 'bad guys'. Thus a simple change and now North Korea is actually a threat to the western world!

Currently watching a great movie that will hopefully never have a failed re-make, Tora! Tora! Tora!

The new Red Dawn is the worst movie I ever saw in my life! They took one of my cherished childhood movies and just massacred it. It was so pathetic I do not even know where to begin. If you have not seen it and are thinking of it, do yourself a favor and stay away!
