Ok this is a silly question, up until now I have only worked with plastic kits, I now have a resin kit (verlinden 'the bad ones') so what I would like to know is what do I need to do to get the parts off the resin 'blocks'? There is very little online in regards to resin kits so any hints or advice would be lovely, thank you in advance.

I've found a small hobby saw to be the best way to go about it. You can use a sharp razorknife on the thinner ones. Keep in mind that resin is unforgiving under pressure and will crack very easily when stressed. Once the parts are loose they can be cleaned up with a file, sandpaper, or a motor tool.

And don't forget to wear a mask while you're sanding down resin parts. Resin powders are toxic!

Alex,

You could also saw the resin either while repeatedly wetting it with a spray bottle, or while under running water to help keep the resin dust particles from getting airborne.

Wearing a mask or respirator while sawing is great, but if you do this indoors, the dust still gets around the house and you likely will breathe it later.

Resin dust is an irritant, bothersome but NOT toxic or carcinogenic. As with any dust, at industrial levels, far beyond what any hobbyist is likely to create, it can be highly combustible. Look at the labels...no toxicity warnings. Further, given the litigeous nature of modern society, it would be as available as lead.

And just to clarify since we have no idea of who will read this....

If you choose to use Jeff's water method to hold the dust down, DO NOT do so while using an electric motor tool!!!
