Hiya guys! it's me and my dumb questions again...
Loved the answers on making tow cables and even the looped eyes on them, but what I couldn't find was how to scratchbuild the hooks holding them, so if any of you mastah-builders knows how to, please tell me!
Because my english s*cks i'll put in a pic to show you what I mean, it's the hooks haning on the buttom of the hull...
Thanks in advance

Hi Jurgen, this is an interesting question. This is going to be one of the harder things you will need to do. Here's an idea. Find a length of wire that is from .030" to .040" (Just under 1 mm o just over 1 mm) thick. Bend it to shape. That is the easy part to say, but it will be the hard thing to do. I might suggest improvising a jig with a 2 mm dowel and a smaller dowel for the bolt holes.

Bro has a great suggestion - to continue the thought - some of the softer hobby wire can actually be smashed flat with a pair of pliers. That way you can get the ends flat. Use a micro file to round off the edges and corners.

A small jig would be the best way to bend this.

My Machinery's Handbook has some dimensions listed.

Great suggestions, I'll remember them the next time I need to scratch some tow shackles.

BTW, the U-shaped devices pictured above are referred to as tow shackles. They are normally used to secure the vehicles to flatbeds, railcars, ship decks, etc. Tow hooks are J-shaped with a little "T" at the end. This is so they can be quickly attached to the eyelet on the ends of tow cables. They are mainly used for recovery purposes.

You can also use solder wire. All you need to do is find some with a small diameter. It is very soft and easy to work with. (also almost the right color!!)
