Hey all,

I'm trying to find out if there are any PE sets out there for leather straps as those used by the Germans in WWII on many vehicles/artillery equipment. I'm in need of various sizes for a project I have in mind.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Hi Rob. Aber have a set of belts and buckles, and to be honest, I dont like etched belts. They are too stiff so I prefer to use lead foil, or even thick electrical tape works well. The buckles are OK and they give a straight/plain belt some detail. But in all honesty, I wouldn´t buy the set again just for the buckles either. Small squares made from thin wire would do the same job ... better profile for painting and a lot cheaper.

I would recommend the Aber sets simply because they are quite handy, saves having to cut material yourself but scratchbuilding is sometimes a bit easier. I sometimes use Tamiya tape doubled up to create straps and slings- I find it somewhat easier to use than lead foil. Alliance Model Works also do a figure detailing set that has straps and webbing etc, but I can't say what its like as I've never used it.

Thanks very much, gents, for the great info. I found a few Aber sets that I could perhaps use for what I need but I'm starting to give Frank's suggestion of simply scratch building my own some real thought here as what Aber provides doesn't look like it will fit the bill. I like the idea of using electrical tape or, based on Karl's suggestion, Tamiya tape so I may give those a try this weekend.

Thanks again!

Rob
