John - yeah seeing those photos again sure brought back some memories. I wish I had the complete collection we took up there. I did most of the Axis stuff, while my friend shot the Allied. Unfortunately, that part of the set was with the negatives when they were destroyed.

FYI to anyone who cares... The person in the 21ton bomb picture is me. I stand about 5'7" so you can figure how big that thing is.

Matt - as we were talking, donations are always good. If I ever win the lottery I'd buy them 10k gallons of rust killing primer just so they could spray everything to slow down the deterioration. We've lost so much of this stuff over the years. As I suggested in another post it would have been nice if they had explored the possibility of putting things on temporary loan to any place that could securely house them out of the weather. I'd think a fair number of museums would love to have some of this stuff in their collections, even if it's just for a while.

Heck, if they want to park a StuG in my front yard, I'd be happy to build a shelter for it!

I only made the recommendation of supporting a private collector, as they seem to have the money to house and keep the vehicle/gun operational. I am not suggesting fully operational. After all, we wouldn't want to be the person behind the Stug on 9A. Unless, of course, it is being transported via truck.

Sorry guys. Day 3.5 without a cigarette. I'm a little grouchy.

Hey Matt - no problem here. While I advocate supporting any museum you want to, the AAF Museum in Danville that I now send donations to is a privately run foundation.

I would dearly love to see the new museum at Benning get up and running. I'm just afraid what little government funding and help they've been getting will be cut off as budgets grow tighter, not to mention the slow down in public donations for the same reason. We'll need to cross our collective fingers that if something does happen along those lines they do transfer the stuff they have there to other places and not just haul them out to the range for target practice (as have been done before).

Good luck with the cigs and keep counting the days!
