Sadly no photos but take my word for it.

Get some conkers and let them dry out naturally. When dried, peel off the shell til your left with the 'brain'. Prime, paint then voila.... instant weathered boulders for your diorama! (you could always just use small stone of course)

I think I'll stick to real rocks. They require no drying out time and you don't have to paint them
