Hold and fold tool - what size?

Ok I am thinking of purchasing the "Hold and Fold" from the Tool shop for photo etch part bending and was wondering if any of you "brass lovers" use it?

If so, what size should I invest in? 2, 4 or 8 inch... Man this sounds sexual

Also what about the Tool Shop's rolling set for round parts?

I will go for the 8" one. I got one myself. Since my logic is it has everything in the 2" or 4" one, so might as well go for the big one. Besides, I have been saving money on the 1/16 Tamiya Tiger I, so I suppose it will come handy when I am bending those big fenders....

Just the mere thinking of 1/16 Tamiya Tiger I, I curse my boss for not pay me good enough!

An excellent question. I've been thinking about buying one myself, and that's the question I've been wondering about since I found out they come in different sizes. I do mainly 1/35 armor and 1/48 aircraft. What size would be best? Since I've never used one, I'd love to hear what satisfied users think.

At this moment I exclusively work with 1/35 armor, the 8" can cover even the longest fenders. I suggest also get the 8" folding blade as well, because the original one comes with the hold and fold is 2".

Goosh Darn I only ordered the 4 inch one. He also said that changes have been made too it.

I've got the new 4" one (black base with a purple top piece). Very nicely crafted and looks like it'll work with any of the PE I use. I also have the Aber PE for the 1/16 Tiger and it looks bige enough for any bending I may need to do. BTW the Aber PE set was my primary reason for getting the Hold & Fold.

So Rob, do you think that I got that 8" is an overkill? I wish I had talked to you guys first before I placed order for it....oh well....My "Bigger is Better" Syndrom!

A little bit of overkill for me, may suit you perfectly. I do not have a work bench so I have to be more mobile. Enjoy it anyway.

I E-mailed the company to order one and they said they are a couple weeks behind (took them over a week to get back to my e-mail to let me know). How about the rolling set, does anyone know anything about this? I tried to call them also to place an order and the voice mail box was full so I couldn't leave a message. I put things on the back burner after this but I think I will keep trying to get them because I just got some PE kits and they have me itching to try it.

Hi Andrew, I have the rolling set too, They are good for me, because I am not good at making my own jigs, so if I can buy them at a reasonable price, I will. But I suppose many experienced modeller can just use different diameter of rods to make them. Basicly the rolling sets are just wooden cylinders of various diameter (2 metal ones for smaller diameter) plus one steped woonden block.

By the way, ordering from The Small Shop is rather difficult, The Great Models I ordered initially from was out of stock, so I have to cancelled them. Finally I ordered from the Mission Models, they are very fast, and service is good.

45 days is a long long time to wait for some good tools. That's why I highly recommend Mission Models, after I placed the order, it takes 1 week for me to get the H&F, and I am in HK.

I would say that the rolling set is a waste of money. Matt is right, the rolling set is nothing more than a set of different sized dowel rods. It would be much cheaper (and faster since their system of filling orders sucks) to go to your local DIY store and buy different sized dowel rods.

I ordered from him last week I talked to owner he said that he would be sending it out this week. If he does not I will cancel his order and get it from the other place that has it. When somebody says that they will ship you something this week and you get it 45 days latter will not do business with people like that!!! Period..

I agree with you there SgtReef. I have never ordered from The Small Shop, but from what I have read on this site, ML, and TL, I would say that he needs to really rethink how he processes orders. If he really is doing things as fast as he can then he should put some sort of disclaimer on his site saying that the order will take an ungodly amount of time to fill.

Are these little devices actually worth the $40+ they are charging??? I have thought about buying one but wonder if I could possibly build one myself.

O.K., I would like to support these guys because of there support for us, but I need to be able to search by topic for items. I just don't know what I am looking for specificaly yet in most cases, just that I am building a hummer and would like to search for "hummer" items and see what they have. I am going to send them a not and let them know that would help guys like myself that don't know what they are looking for find what they don't know they need, if that make any sense, if I could search for it. Anyway, I am going to try and order a 4" hold and fold today from them.

I ordered the last 4" hold and fold from them (Mission Models). They said its going out today and will be here by monday if not tommarow. He said they may add a search engine to the site in the future also but he hasn't decided yet.

I did some drawings for my own. If I can get some time at work on Mon I'll convert the dimensions to metric, scan and E-mal them to you. "My? version is made to suit my needs.
