I've been working my way through the AK Interactive DVD on weathering in 1 hour. It's great to see a whole process from start to finish for a newbie like me.
Are there similar videos for general model building for a newbie? I found this DVD, but it's a bit pricey and only available (??) from overseas. Hoping for other options.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Mig has two DVDs, one on airbrushing with color modulation, the other on using pigments for weathering. They're quite helpful, and as a 'newbie,' even though some of the techniques are fairly involved, you can start to incorporate elements in slowly.

Cool! I've seen them and wondered whether they're worth it.
I'm thinking even more "starter" though. Something that talks about construction techniques, basic painting, etc.

It depends on what your real interest is. But yes those are both good DVD's, and there is an excellent one for scale armor, which is what I'm guessing you are looking for?
It is titled:
Realistic Armor Finishing Techniques
by Marcus Nicholls
ISBN: 978-1-905573-99-8
It is the best "beginners" DVD I have seen so far, and well worth the money.
