Try dropping Howard Whitehead a message at Kit Form Services to see if he can furnish you with the base dimensions you need for chassis and wheels.

KFS are about to release a 1/24 Matador kit in full.

Worth a shot

Sounds interesting, what scale are you intending?

SFAIK, The Dorchester was based on the AEC Matador, & Accurate Armour do one or two, in 1/35th

I have seen other builds based on the 1/35th Bedford QL Portee (available in Airfix/Italeri boxes) which might give you a start.

& there is also the SKP offering & AFV club 'vapourware' announcement.

I'm planning on 1/35 scale.. I've got the bodyshell cut out of .030 plasticard. Just needs putting together, then I need chassis and wheels....

It's all coming together (slowly).

I did look at the accurate armour kits, but they are a bit pricey...

If you drop Accurate Armour an email, they may be willing to just sell you the parts you need - such as wheels, suspension and chassis. I've bought bits from them like this before.

The hardest part will be all the rivets, there looks to be 300-400 of them!

I'm taking the easy route... I'm punching the reverse of the plasticard...

I've done a bit more on the vehicle....

The masking tape is to test all parts fit first.... It's coming along well and hopefully I may do some of the interior....

I've come across some fitment issues from the scale drawings of the dorchester that I have, so some new parts are needed to be scratched..

Overall though, this looks be a nice challenge..

Ahh, I've sometimes found certain styles of drawing somewhat 'optimistic'
do a google search for Dorchester plans or blueprints...
you will get a lot of choice

good luck

I've done the google search, but don't get many plans or blueprints, I've got a load of photos of them in use (mainly in German hands) but nothing definitive that I could use as a plan...

I have worked out what is wrong though, just gotta scratch two front pieces that go over the wheel wells.

The biggest issue is rivets!! I've decided the way I'm doing them is probably easiest but doesn't look good enough . So I'm gonna have to go the long route and place individual rivets on Long winded yes, but will look better when painted/weathered.

The rivets look fine to me mate but if you're not happy then have a look at Archers Fine Transfers:

I have this set and it might make life easier for you.

I did come across those, but it doesn't give a scale of what they are in so I can then enlarge them, I did find yesterday a pdf to make a paper version, that is in 1/50th. So I think from that I'll be able to get the correct scale drawings..

Thanks

Thanks for everyones input, I've managed to get hold of an Italeri Bedford QL kit nice and cheap on the internet.

So I will be using the chassis & wheels from this for the Matador (after I make casts of them for another build...)

More photos to follow....

Ok, so I decided to use a product called Oyumaru.. It's a great molding compound that can be used over & over....

I want a spare set of the bedford wheels so,

Once youv'e made your mold takes about 15mins in total, its time to fill your mould. (talcum powder first, brush away excess)

The mould holds the smaller details of the item quite well. I just need to get rid of any flash and paint....

Once thats set, they just

What's Oyumaru,
It's a 100% re-useable moulding compound. Comes in different colours.

how do you use it,
Simple, place 1 or more of the blocks in a bowl and then cover with boiling water,
Leave for 5 mins and it goes soft/pliable.
Remove (without scalding yourself) make into a ball, then press the required item into the compound
Then leave it to firm (takes about 5 mins)

Remove the item from the cast, then you can fill with whatever resin/sculpt you want (remember to dust with talcum powder so the new cast item can be removed easily)

any gotchas,
None that I can find

& WHERE d'you geddit?
I bought mine from Fred aldous website, but it is available from other suppliers..

also, what brand of resin you using?
I used Green Kneadtite modelling compound. (Got mine from Ebay)

Ok so I had to scrap the first attempt

But managed to find a pdf online that is in 1/50th, I've enlarged this on the photocopier and have new drawings now...

These all seem to fit better than my original, I've started building already, using .020 plasticard.

I now have the bedford XL to use for chassis & tyres/wheels. All of which are being copied so I have the original for later use...

This is a huge test of my scratch building skills, which at the moment aren't too bad!! Next comes the hard part, I wasn't too sure about the way I was doing the rivets (punching the card on the reverse) so I opted to buy some scale rivets..... This will test my patience...

I'll post photos later...
