I have in my stash the following catagories of models...
* armor
* aircraft
* ships
* sci-fi
Anyone else here buy multiple catagories of models? If so, what catagories?

1/48 Aircraft,
1/35 Armour
Various Sci-Fi
I had an idea for a campaign, "Out of your comfort zone" where modelers built in scale and subject that they've never touched before.

I'm mainly doing 144th aircraft right now, but my largest commitment is to N scale trains. they sort of fit together.
I also have a number of 1/72nd airplane and armor models.

I build anything that fits in a box on a hobby shop shelf
In order of popularity:
Aircraft
Ships (especially submarines)
Figures
SF & real space
Cars
Armour
I wouldn't do very well in that "out of your comfort zone" contest...

I was at my local club meeting sometime back, and someone asked," Who built the tank?" I replied that it was mine. Obviously puzzled, he said," But, You Build Figures!" I say "Nay, Nay!" I'll build anything and everything that may strike my fancy. I've built ships, planes, armor, cars, trucks, motorcycles, small and large scale figures, dioramas, and (dare I say It?) even sci-fi and monsters. Al

Answer is "yessir"
Here is my list (order of importance given by the moment I am going through but it is cyclic):
1/72 Aircraft (modern/contemporary mainly)
1/35 Tanks (again modern)
1/350 Submarines (guess what...modern!)
1/144 Real Space
I am also currently looking for a nice 1/24 car to buy and try my hands on.
I personally find that variety helps fuel one out of those "dull" moments of modelling I do find myself in (like in the "lack of inspiration" thread). Also some techniques I am learning in one field often find a very good use in another (the "reading the seams" thread is very helpful also when joining submarine hulls!).

When I started my hobby I pretty much built anything I could find. But eventually settled on 1:35 vehicles and figures.
That said I subscribed to a sort of magazine thingy which sends me a magazine and some wooden parts and very soon I will start my first wooden ship model of the Unicorn. The ship from the TinTin comics and movie

All armor since returning to the hobby several years ago, but recently I've become interested in ships. So after burning myself out on a King Tiger I decided to give one of Dragon's 1/350 destroyers a shot. It's been a great change of pace so going forward I expect I'll be more like 50:50.

A little of this and a little of that. I prefer WWI and WWII subjects but I will branch out into sci-fi and other areas. Mostly 1/35 scale by choice but I will do 1/32 scale armor and figures and various scales for cars, ships, aircraft, scratch-built, etc.
I guess it just depends on my mood and interest at the time.
I give credit to the various campaigns that have been run by various members on each of the KitMaker sites as they are what got me modeling outside of my comfort zone.

Sadly, yes.......
Auto, with an emphasis on Nascar, Ferraris, 60's/70's Muscle Cars, especially Mopar, and pick up trucks
Armor...mostly modern, but do have a number of WWII kits, especially if they were used by Canada
Aircraft...ditto armor
Ships...not as many, but I tend to stick to 1/700, but do have some smaller 1/350
Sci Fi...mostly Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactic, with a few Star Wars thrown in for good measure.
Not a bit of wonder my stash is 600+.....just not sure how big that "+" is.

At the moment only aircraft 1/48 scale, simply because my interest in airplanes is the reason for modelling.
But in th past I have done some AFV, cars motorcycles... and one day...

1/48 Aircraft,
1/35 Armour
Various Sci-Fi
I had an idea for a campaign, "Out of your comfort zone" where modelers built in scale and subject that they've never touched before.
Richard in the British Bulldogs we did this campaign for a show build a couple of years back, it worked well but can be a bit hard for the ones that build everything.
So in the show campaign we did I built a 1/144 Hurricane as my normal build and a 1/35 AH-1W Super Cobra as my out of comfort zone.
My personal catagories are:
1/144 Aircraft
1/48 Aircraft
1/144 Armour
1/72 Armour
1/35 Armour
1/24 Automotive (cars and trucks)
1/700 Ships
1/350 Ships
1/72 Sci-fi
1/144 Space and Sci-fi
Large and small scale Fantasy figures
Busts, both fantasy and real

1/35 modern armour
1/72 WWII floaty things
1/48 reserved for WWII wingy things
