Brian,
A search in google should find all the info needed
here's a starting point
http://www.ehow.com/how_4480452_wire-led-lights.html

Basically to wire a LED you need a current limiting resistor connected between your power source and the LED. The value of the resistor is determined by the supply voltage and the specifications of the LED. There are many LED circuit calculators on the net, like this one http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz . this site also has a lot of info about LED's.

If you need small LED's you may want to search for surface mount LED's, these can be a lot smaller and will need a higher level of soldering skills to solder, if you choose to keep things small you may also use surface mount resistors.
You may also need to find some thin hookup wire.

Good luck.

Micro Mark (USA) has simple beginners kits for fiber optic lighting. The kit incudes the battery pack and light source and fiber optics. All you have to do is figure out where to place the components. You could probably find something similar in electronic stores in GB.
