Hi all,

Me and my nephew were going to Gettysburg to a figure show in 2010. we stopped at the Patton museum to look around. they had started to relocate the tanks to a new home but still had the bulk of there displays.
Why im telling all this is this was the first time i had ever been close to a real WWII era tank and i was 41 a the time. im 6'4" with shoes on and i was blown away at how huge the tanks were. i was suprised to see the late war sherman was nearly as big as the kingtiger. after building models a few years, haveing never actually seen one up close, it was a real treat to visit that place. not sure where they are moving to but i would recommend visiting the place if you never been. heres a couple pics of me to show what i mean.

Just wanted to share that with everyone. It was a great experience!

Gary I envy you, I love the Kingtiger yet I have never seen one in person.

Thats quite inexcusable of course there are 2 KT in the UK plus a Jadgtiger, a runner in France and one in Germany.

Hey Steven,

thanks for looking man! you should go visit your local KT since your going to build 2. would be inspirational.

What i didnt tell everyone at first is while in Gettysburg we went to Baltimore Maryland to visit the Aberdeen proveing grounds and they were closed. we felt pretty stupid driving there without calling first to see if they were open. i was so disappointed. i wanted to see the jagdtiger there because i was going to start my JT when we got back home. OOOHHH WELL!!!

The Patton Museum is moving to Ft. Benning, in GA.

I think it's a good excuse for you to come to the 2013 Atlanta AMPS show.

What's even more inexcusable is you are in the southwest, near enough to both KTs at Bovington! I sense a pilgrimage in your future...

Unfortunately, all of the Aberdeen collection was moved to Ft. Lee, VA, but is now in storage, because the money promised for the new museum there was canceled by the BRAC study. Last I talked with the museum people at Ft. Lee, they were going to try and raise the funds through private donations.

The vehicles at Ft Benning belonging to the Armor and Calvalry Museum are also in storage awaiting the building of their museum. Again money problems.

I really need to see a KT in person you are correct !

Seeing a Jadgpanther in the Imperial War Museum did inspire me.

What made me a sad was those images from the Aberdeen proving ground of those rare and unique German WW2 AFV rusting away. Really heartbreaking, if they wanted to leave them outside at least transfer them to Navada !

Hi gentelmen,

Jesse, me and my nephew plan on going to the Atlanta show in 2014 or 2015. saving money and getting extra time to go is the key, but we do plan to go. my nephew has attended twice and said it was an amazing show.

Steven, i completely agree. the condition of the armor at Aberdeen is very sad indeed. at the risk of sounding political, our country is slowly forgetting the reasons we have been able to be free. the veterans, the sacrifice, and preserving the materials that allowed our soldiers and allies to obtain victory in europe and asia. heck, its not even properly taught in most our schools now. my son is about to graduate high school and he doesnt have a clue about history except what i teach him myself. very sad and frustraiting. i had better stop right there or ill go too far and may upset someone.

Anyways, thanks guys for posting and god bless our veterans and troops!!!

Gary,

I hear ya. Growing up in New York, by the time I moved over here (in my 20s) NASA had already "lost" all the technology that we spent so much of our GDP on in the 1960s. The Russians, however, are still using the same old capsules and rockets that lofted the Cosmonauts into orbit in the LBJ administration!

I hope they find the money to build the museum at Fort Lee - anything's gotta be better than the APG "Field of Shame". Goodness knows how much of the softer steel details we've lost on these historic monsters through generations of rust. Not to mention all that Zimmerit coating...

I have a trip to the Patton Museum planned. Luckily, I live only thirty minutes from Camp Blanding. Just went there, today. Bigger is better. At least that seems the case during WWII.

Hey Matt,

They had already started relocating the tanks when we went there. as i understood it, all armor was to be relocated eventually. you might want to check before you visit.

what tanks are at camp Blanding?

All but the Russian vehicles are in excellent shape. The exception in us vehicles being the quad 50. The guns have been removed. One of the Shermans has the steel tracks and the other has the rubber inserts. I'll throw some photos up, today.

Sorry, I thought you meant the first photo. I've heard the Tamiya version is trash. I can get more photos of the Duster for you. I'm lucky enough to have one twenty minutes away and the one at Camp Blanding.
