How can I scratchbuild personal gear like backpacks and tent- & bedrolls ? I want to scratchbuild these because not much is available in 1:16 (as far as I know).

Thanks in advance,
Marc

gather photos and measurements of the 'real' things and then convert the 'real' measurements to the scale required then build or make to look like the pics of the real thing.

Yes I have, but the choice is limited. That's why I would like to build my own to have some variation on the vehicles.

Thanks,
Marc

Get some fabric with a suitable texture and thickness, cut it to the right width, dip it in a mixture of 50%water and 50% white, roll it up, make the needed straps with lead/aluminium foil (use superglue to fix these foil on foil), let dry and you'll have your bed roll...
