OK what is the final word on Nail Polish on models?

I am talking specifically here the crackle finish types you can get, is there someway they can be used, a coating that you can put on your work perhaps ?

I've seen some stunning colours on auto models using nail polish, airbrushed using lacquer thinners as the medium. My wife and 13yo daughter both have crackle nail polish and the only purpose for the "primer" colour is to vary the colour showing through the top finish.

I'm planning a raid on Priceline to grab a few $2 jars to play around with on some old CD covers, so I will post the results here sometime soon.

Cheers, D

So your not protecting your "Man Brand" by getting the Wife to pick some up for ya ?

Looking forward to the results !

No, I will have a great time stirring up the staff girls asking them what colour they think matches my eyes and hair.

Here's a link to an auto build using "colour shift" nail polish paint on a Corvette Kit .

Most of the modelers I know stateside know their way around a "Sally Beauty Supply" better than their wives. Graded sanding sticks, tweezers, acetone (fingernail polish remover, aka superglue de-bonder), wooden push sticks, spray bottles, brushes.

Scott, I gotta get your wife to have a chat with mine. My sanding sticks, tweezers, cotton buds and fine scissors go missing regularly. Top drawer of the ensuite vanity is better equipped than my workbench after a few days.

Have even read that some have great success with foundations and different hues of "tan" make-up used for weathering! Personally, I use acetone-free nail polish remover to wipe away excess putty and Mr. Sufacer, so very little sanding is needed when cured. Cotton tops dipped in this work great, and works pretty much the same way cotton tips dipped in water are used with Milliput. Ordinary nail polish remover, I use for cleaning brushes afterwards.
The "man-brand" is always protected though ... my wife picks these up for me ... she knows the brands I prefer!

"Colour shift" is also known by the brand name "Harlequin"
