It is with great pleasure that we can finally officially announce the first Lone Star Figure Show to be held in Dallas, Texas. The show will be held March 30th and 31st at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel. The hotel is located just off of I-35, and is easily accessible from both DFW Airport and Love Field, as well as close to the Downtown attractions such as the Dealy Plaza and the famous Sixth Floor Museum.

The show will be held in combination with two workshops, one on painting and the other on sculpting and converting figures. The workshops will begin on Thursday the 29th and wrap up on Friday the 30th prior to the official show opening.

We are proud to present the world famous painter Julio Cabos as our instructor for the painting workshop, with assistance of Doug Cohen, will share his painting techniques with the participants.

Julio will also perform painting demonstrations at the Andrea Miniatures trade stand on Saturday during the show.

The sculpting workshop will be instructed by Anders Heintz and will cover converting figures as well as getting started sculpting your very own original figures.

Bill Horan, who needs no introduction, will be the shows guest speaker sharing his techniques and philosophies on modeling his famous original 54mm figures during the Saturday Seminar.

You will need to pre register for the workshops as space is limited. Look below for more info.

The Lone Star Figure Show will be judged with the OPEN system. What this means is that there are no 1st, 2nd or 3rd prizes. Each artist will be judged and awarded according to their current level of proficiency, no one will receive an award at the cost of another artist.

There will be many interesting Special Awards with fun prizes, as well as both a judges Best of Show and a Peoples Choice Award.

Though it is mainly a figure show, we expect a great turn out of Armor, Aircraft and other types of models to be entered into the competition. We welcome any and all types of models to be entered into the competition.

Room rates at the show hotel will be $99 per night. To make your reservations call 1-800-468-3571 and make sure you mention the Lone Star Figure Show to get the special show rate. You can also use the following link for easy reservations online

Painting Workshop with Julio Cabos

We are extremely proud to be able to offer a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best painters in the world, and Andrea Miniatures Master Painter, Mr. Julio Cabos. Through out the workshop, Julio will teach the participants his tips and techniques as well as individually tutor each participant for maximum learning opportunity. The class will be small, with only 15 slots available, to ensure that each participant will receive proper attention and to give each participant the opportunity to maximize learning.

The workshop will focus on the excellent 54mm Andrea Miniatures figure of Teddy Roosevelt (reference SG-F150). The figure will be provided as part of the workshop fee and will be primed and ready to be painted. Everything needed for the workshop will be provided, which includes the paints, brushes, palettes, work lights and more. Though a brush will be given to each participant (Andrea high quality #1 brush), it is encouraged for each participant to bring their favorite brushes.

This is a very rare opportunity and perhaps once in a life time chance to receive direct instructions from one of the worlds best painters right here in the US.

Doug Cohen will be part of the workshop to help with the class as well as translate should the need arise.

Doug is a world class painter in his own right, and we are lucky to have him available.

We expect the 15 slots to sell out very quickly, so register as soon as possible.

Sculpting Workshop with Anders Heintz

We are happy to be able to offer a second workshop for those artists who would like to get started sculpting their own figures or for those who would like to expand their sculpting skills.

The workshop will be led by Anders Heintz, one of the leading sculptors in the US, who is well known for his passion and willingness to share his knowledge with others. Anders set a new standard on how to conduct a seminar at the 2011 Atlanta Show and we expect more of the same with this workshop.

The workshop will go over every step of sculpting a figure in detail, both from scratch and how to get started converting figures. Each participant will receive all the tools needed to get started sculpting, as well as several mannequins and putty. To top it all off, each person will receive a DVD covering the materials discussed in the workshop as well as bonus footage of sculpting various items. It should be a fun and educational experience for all attending.

As with the painting workshop, seats are limited to 15 people to maximize learning and individual attention.
