I was wondering if our beloved website could possibly publish a tips and technique book based on the threads published on this web site? The big question for them would be how many members would be interested in buying one for quick reference? Any ideas on this subject?
The only problem I find looking things up on the site is getting distracted from my model building and getting 'stuck' here for a few hours!!!!!!!!

That's an excellent point Augie, the same thoughts have been going through my mind in the last few days... Rather than a book, it would be excellent to have a series of articles put together on PDF format for ease of downloading... How practical this is I really don't know. I do tend to take a rather simplistic view of Information Technology and the practicalities frequently escape me...Jim

A nice reference book is on my list of "things to do". I was hoping Rob and I could work together and pick an interesting subject that he has access to for print quality photos.
We actually have an easy way to publish books through CafePress. They do CD-ROMs too.
Great idea though. It's all a matter of time and effort.
Cheers,
Jim

good idea as this is the best place I've found for tips and tricks with no one trying to hide how they do things doing something like this will only make the site go from strength to strength as the best modelling reference on the net or magazine :-)

GOOD Man!
We can use it to make millions and then further the site into history. Bill Gates will want to host this site because its so successful!
Actually that does sound like a very good idea. Where are you going to see a book though. I mean are you thinking just on here, or on Amazon and others.

When I see a useful tidbit, I print it out. I have a three ring binder full of stuff. Kind of like making your own book. Great stuff here on the big "A".

I had a thought this morning and checked further. It turns out the books cafepress does are only full-color cover jackets and not fully color capable through-out. So that kind of nixes that. I was even imagining a small Armorama Magazine, like a "Year-in-Review" or something. But alas. Probably better anyways as I have so little time to finish projects these days. I need to get the calendar done first!
I guess I will fall back on a more simple reference CD-ROM. That should be better anyways for our type of stuff. Magazines and books are so....20th century. hehe

Dear Officers,
I would buy a book or CD in a heartbeat. I have printed off so much info from your wonderful web-site that I have filled at least 4 notebooks. The left-brained (call that anal) part of me has taken all my books and articles, numbered them and entered them in Excel by categories, like "assembly", "uniforms", "scratchbuilding", etc. There is a comments sections, too. Then, after I sort them by category, item, and book (or notebook) number, I can find that idea or tip or photo reference in seconds, like Book 12, page 22.
As I add reference materials, I add them to the list and resort. It works great. As I have over 1200 references already from a one-liner to an entire article, I save tons of time when I ask myself, "Where was that great picture of that waterfall, or, what was that tip for making wood look real". It sounds lengthy, but remember, you only enter it once.

It's nice to see the response of everyone to the idea! Everyone has good ideas for what could be done. I also print off things that I want to really keep but I know that I do miss things sometimes. Maybe there could also be a series of books on the best of the ideas from each of the sections in the forums here (one for each area). This site is my best source of information of tips and techniques. It should be required reading for anyone doing any model!
Once again, thanks for your response!
