Great - I get to play armchair Admiral!

I'd place the new carrier and her battle group at Guam. I'd keep the existing Anderson AFB facilities and runways open - and use them to support the carrier battle group. I'd also use part of Anderson as forward basing for A-10 and B52 - B1 - or even B2 PPF assignments. Before I left Okinawa in '89 - A-10's from Alaska heading out to Okinawa was part of the plan for defending South Korea or any other SE Asia partner. Guam would be easy to incorporate into this mission. Guam is also far enough away from mainland China to maintain a respectful distance - but allow rapid and a powerful response to aggression in the theatre.

I think Guam's US Commonwealth status, position and existing facilities a great choice for basing the Navy's new carrier battle group.

Gunnie--- I'd put them in Australia. Guam will sink with all that stuff there.

Heh heh - but we like the Aussies! They'd get quickly tired of that much of an American presence there Just like walking up to a momma Koala with baby and attempting to pet her. She might tolerate your presence for a little while, might even let you snap off a photo or two, but she'll quickly let you know when she's had enough...

Marines are not polite drinkers!

Just stick us on the West coast, and unlike the US West Coast, nobody will even know we are there!

I think we can work out a very equitable deal with the Aussies.

Well, my beloved Son also sits there in the Infantry and wonders "why?" everyday. Should we still be there?

I could vow I heard a couple of days back that the US Administration was considering pull back from the DMZ - now this news report today on the Chinese threatening force to prevent Taiwan Independence:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/east/11/18/taiwan.war/index.html

Coincidence? Sabre-rattling to disrupt Taiwanese elections? Or, even more fantastic to believe, a Chinese feint to keep the US engaged in the Region and right up on the DMZ where the North Koreans keep their attention???

Gunnie--- my recollection is that we are negotiating to pull back from the Imjin area to a location in the vicinity of Osan along the western side of Korea. The ROKs would then assume control of the border we now guard. Recommend you start a thread on"what would we do if the Chinese seized Formosa?"

I recommend a thread called "What would Taiwanese do if Chiese seized Taiwan" By the way, Formosa is a Taiwanese Independence name for Taiwan that is flowned upon by us Chinese Taiwanese....

Dave-- start a thread. I think you'll get a lot of folks thinking as to just what would happen.
