It was hard to find a good desert color , a color that s close to the one used in OIF.
SO I decided to use Model Masters US ARMY / MArines color.
AS I did until now painted all my tanks and humvees with Tamya Acrylic nato colors and washed them with an cleansing agent (Thinner or terpentine,) I never had a problem.
But now I airsbushed a couple of APCs with the MOdel Master desert color. I started to use the same way of washing as I did for tamya base coat colored AFVs. What happend after the wash was terrible. THE wash attacked and destroyed the MM desert base coat color in little pieces!!!!
CAN ANYONE PLEASE tell me what kind of liquid I should add to my black oilpaint to do the wash ? Shall I use WATER with BLACK tamya color to do the wash on Model master colored tanks?????

In order to avoid unpleasant suprises like the one you had, I always seal the enamel with either gloss or a matt acryl coat depending if I'm going to apply a wash/selective wash or a filter.
Sorry to hear what appened to you...

I've had similar disasters. For one thing, always let the MM dry for at least 2-3 days so that it can really cure to a hard finish. Then, give it a protective coat. Then, when washing, try to avoid disturbing the wash once it's on; just let it dry in place.

I use gloss (Future) before a wash and matt before a filter

I usually do that. Future just out of the bottle and the matt thinned to suit airbrushing needs

Future is the name for an acrylic liquid floor wax made by Johnsons. Klear is another name for it.
Filter is an enamel coat of color that is about 95% thinner. It is placed on the model with an almost dry brush. Its purpose is to bring life to the under color. It is not a wash in the sense that it is not flowed on.

I see a lot of people use Future - does anyone just use Humbrol Gloss Cote instead?

On enamels use X-22 (gloss clear). Beware of the flat base, it is meant to turn matt the gloss paints and absolute it's almost white and NOT TRANSPARENT at all! To be 100% sure the procedure should be:
- tranparent gloss acryl coat on enamels paint before an enamel/oil wash
- transparent gloss enamel coat on acryl paint before an acryl wash
- tranparent matt acryl coat on enamels paint before an enamel/oil filter
- transparent matt enamel coat on acryl paint before an acryl filter

thanx for help
how long does the clear coat take to dry?
I never used an transparent gloss enamel coat on acryl paint , but immediarly did an oil wash and never had a problem . But does it look better and more bautiful to add an gloss emanel coat on acryl paint and make an acryl wash ?

If you try to touch it it looks dry in half an hour or so, but in my experience wait at least 12 to 24 hours...

Eruo Pro,
The enamel gloss coat over the acrylic paint will give the model a smoother surface, allowing the wash to flow more smoothly. So yeah, it helps to make the wash look better.

Shaun

One last very last question concerning the decals.
Shall I first add the decals on the vehicle before I add the transparnet coat
or is it better to add the decales after the transparent coat and wash was applied?
