Just watched "9th Company" on Netflix. It's about Russian airborne volunteers in Afghanistan. Some goo tank references, as well as helos and uniforms. Found it to be inspiring. Note, this is the first war.

Really cool movie, its like a Russian version of 'Full Metal Jacket'. Probably a lot of good diorama ideas in there too.

Reall makes me want to get a T-72 or 80 and do a vignette of it rolling over the top of two soldiers. Talk about a trip.

I agree about 9th company, excellent movie. You may also want to check out The Star made a couple of years ago, also Come and See, this was being made or had just been finished as the USSR collapsed, it’s very grim and tells the story of a boy a village and what happens when the Germans arrive, it pulls no punches.
The Sun is an odd film about emperor Hirito; stick with it is properly the most fascinating film about war I’ve seen.
Finally Waltz with Bashir excellent animated film about the Israeli action in Lebanon in the 80's.
