Hi. I wonder what is the best glue out there for P.E. parts ? I am using Zap-A-Gap medium CA+ to glue Eduard P.E. parts onto my Tamiya T-62. After leaving it to settle for 24 hours, the part can be removed with just a little force. I accidently hit it with my tweezer slightly and it fell off. I guess i have to shop for a betterstronger glue. Thanks in advance.

Hi Thanh

It sounds to me quite strange because Zap-a-gap probably is the stronger CA glue available. I actually use Zap glue and the only problem which I have...is the opposite of yours, so it's quite difficult for me dataching parts to correct some mistake

Did you clean plastic surfaces and PE fret before gluing? CA doesn't work well on "dirty" surfaces

Anyway, in my very humble opinion 2parts epoxy glue is the best alternative to CA glue
It has a longer drying time so it's easier to mount in a perfect way the metal details. Furthermore dried epoxy glue is more "elastic" than dried CA glue (which actually tends to become a little brittle during the time). The reason why I don't usually use epoxy glue is that I don't like mixing togeter their components...It seems to me a huge mess

Cheers

Hey Thanh,

I also use zap glue, but i have found something stronger. Olba CA glue.
Its a indrustrial glue and you can use it even to glue canopies of planes, becouse it dries up transparant. No white staines. Here is the link;

Good stuff, Highly recommended

I use Insta-cure CA glue. I have used Zap-a-Gap in the past, but find that Insta-cure creates a stronger bond metal-plast metal-metal.

I'm with Jim here specifically for gluing PE to plastic.
It has much greater shear strength than CA , as you have already found.

It dries quickly, but not instantly so you can reposition and it is waterbased so that a swipe with a damp q-tip/earbud cleans up any excess while it is still wet. Try that with CA...

For PE to PE bonds I have to go with soldering for strength.

My US$0.02, your mileage may vary.

Gorilla Glue seems to be adding to their selection of instant and other glues.

While I haven't used their CA glue for PE to plastic yet I have has great luck with their other glues for making buildings gluing that soft plastic like scale building siding, brick pattenrs, etc. to cardboard and to like material. I recently used another of their products to repair a seriously broken marble table. I do plan to try their CA glues.

While a bit more difficult to find in all its varieties Loc-Tite makes a whole line of CA glues from general purpose 465 to metal bonding 430 to rubber bonding 50H to the unbelievably awesome 414 rubber and vinyl bonder.

I have had good results with Zap as well but I always have to order it.

I'm been using Gorilla Super glue, and it bonds the PE parts to the plastic great. I do use a Q-tip with Iso Alcohol to pre-clean the parts. If I need to fill a slight gap as well, If i need to fill as slight gap or depression as well, I'll use Loctite gel super glue.
