What are the best methods for fitting an ill fitting plane canopy? I am building an F/A 18 Super Hornet and find that the canopy, which is 2 pieces, does not fit the way it should. All suggestions would be helpful as I know this will eventually happen again. Thanks

Plain old white glue does wonders to fill gaps without causing the clear plastic to do strange things.
What exactly is the problem? Are you attempting to pose the canopy closed or open?

Im having the same problem with my Revell F4U-4 Corsair. The model goes together well but the canopy is a real crappy fit. Has a couple of large gaps. On this model you can only pose the canopy shut as the canopy frame is molded with the fuselage.

i usually go for vacform canopies they're crystal clear and not overly thick. is the canopy malformed? i had this issue with Revell's Me 262 in 1/72 scale sent off for the squadron vacform canopy, best thing i did as the set contains two canopies

In the case of my Corsair, vacuform wouldn't work. The canopy frame is not molded in the same piece of clear plastic as the glass. I would have to do some serious dremel grinding and cutting to make an aftermarket canopy fit.

In this case try painting the edge of the cockpit where the canopy will sit, then touch the canopy to the wet paint. Where the paint adheres to the canopy is where you need to carefully sand it down so it fits the shape of the cockpit rim.

Hi J. The front fuselage section was a separate build and is what is causing the fit problem. Im going to try your white glue suggestion and see how it works. Thanks for answering.

p.s.
If that does not work, ill try the sanding and paint method . Bill

If you're lucky and it's a simple shape, you may be able to glue in slivers of plastic card to fill the gaps. I'd glue them to the fuselage, sand a bit and then try test fitting the canopy again. It's a slow process.

J. Gluing slivers of plastic is also a good idea that I will try if your other tips do not work for me. Thanks again
