Are these fair prices in Canada? Seem a little higher than in the US.

Matt,

I believe the prices are competitive but being here in Canada what I find with suppliers here is they don't seem to take the cost of shipping very seriously and often do not have an accurate shipping calculator on their sites. Shipping rates here in Canada are higher than the U.S. but are competitve if shipping internationally ie. USPS shipment to Canada, Canda Post shipment to the U.S.
I typically do not buy here because I often get hit with innaccurate shipping rates plus taxes. Companies like Ultracast, the Barrel Store, Air connection have crazy shipping costs for small quantity items which make it expensive and uncompetitve. Sprue brothers is a bit better but their shipping costs for a model to Canada can be North of $17 whereas I can ship a model to the US for about the same or less with Canada Post. Elm City Hobbies is pretty competitive on shipping and are very responive as is Colorado miniatures. I have only ordered a couple of Fruil Model tracks from Pacific Coast and their rates were compettitve also.

The difference I find is that in the U.S. you probably get a much better rate domestically than we do in Canada. However, charging a flat rate of $8 (Ultracast) whether I order 1 figure or decal set tells me they don't take their shipping costs seriously. Also charging $10-12 for a PE set from(the Barrel store) is laughable plus I have to pay taxes on top of that??!!! for me I know I could ship the same items at far substantially cheaper prices. I have ordered from Old Dog models and their prices are competitive as are their shipping rates. I ordered off their ebay store.

I think typical modellers dont want to order a lot of items at one time to save on shipping costs. As such I find I can order 1 or 2 new products from Asia at slightly cheaper prices, pay no taxes and their shippng costs reflect the actual cost of shipping small items. As an example Lucky model doesn't charge me for shipping for PE or figures unless they are a boxed set and even then its only a few dollars. Hobby easy charges shipping but again for a PE set something like $1.39 for shipping is very reasonable and reflects the fact that they are esssentially shipping a small envelope. A case in point. I just ordered an Eduard Mask Set of U.S. Stars for armour vehicles from Hobby Easy and they charged me .76 cents for shipping. If I had ordered that same set here in North America I would have been charged probably 3X-5X this price. Of course the Barrel store would have charged me $10. The downside to ordering from Asia is that you you have to wait sometimes up to a month to get the product but that's fine with me. Also, speaking from just my own personal experience I find the customer service in China/Hong Kong as of lately is better than here in the North America. As an example I sent emails to hobby easy and Lucky model and I got a response within 24 hours similarily, I sent a couple of emails to U.S. supplies on Wednesday and I am still waiting for a response 48 hours later.

My apologies if this seems like a plug for companies like Lucky model and Hobby Easy but this is just my own personal experience. I am sure there are others that have had different experiences.
