I just got my first Dragon kit, their first Shilka, and my CA glue is not bonding it. It starts to melt the plastic, but pulls apart. Should I be using regular super glue or epoxy? Please help, as I think this is a very cool model.

Hi Matt:
I am partial to Modelmaster (Not Testor) Liquid Cement for Models. It is in a small, black, 5-sided plastic container, item no 8872. In my opinion, it is better than Testors because it has the metal needle tip while the Testors has a plastic tip that always seemed to get clogged. This glue works great on Dragon, Tamiya, etc. plastic kits.

I like a German glue, "Faller Super Expert " . I discovered it during my model Railroad phase. A needle applicator to put a precise amount where needed. REMEMBER ! let gravity do the work unless you need a lot. Squeeze carefully ! The needle will clog from time to time. Just a quick pass with a lighter's flame does the trick. Careful around thinners and such ! Tom

To avoid the Faller Super Expert needle clogging, before closing the bottle, I put a thin copper wire in the needle. Copper wire is, of course, longer than the needle and is locked in its position by the small plastic cap. Since I've followed this tip, I've never had any clog
cheers

hey there..
I've built many dragon kits.. I've only used superglue to attach details and metal etch parts and wire..
for the plastic itself, I've used Model Master glue, Faller super expert, and my favorite glue of all the plastic weld product Bondene..
I use Bondene for most everything. its storng stuff so apply just enough to glue the parts together.. the only problems I've ever had using it is on the trailing edge of wings and tails, prob because the plastic gets pretty thin in those area's..

Hi, I have used both the Model Masters and the Faller glues with good results from both.

my weapon of choice in glues is revell contacta - the one with a metal tube coming out of it. bonds parts very strong, and easy to apply.

Super glue isn't really a good glue for any plastic to plastic connection. The plastic cements that everyone is recommending actually melt the plastic at the bond, and when they cure, you have a solid connection. It's a 'weld', rather than just an adhesive.
