EDIT: I guess this is more "super-detailing" than scratching but I just wanted a little feedback so, I apoligize.

I opened the other Schwimmwagen kit I had in my stash and got to work on this:

I added various pieces of copper wire for lines than run to and from the transmission. I had a battery from a '62 Buick something-or-other that I chopped in half, removing the other "connector" for the wire and gluing it in place on the "smaller" battery. Any clear plastic is a clear stick I had lying around and will be painted. Other pieces added are from stretched sprue.

Also some leftover PE items from an ABER set used on another Schwimm

I also cut the appropriate holes in the body, and made a few rusted through spots. I am going to remove what the engine connects to in the trunk, and make a small birds nest to place in the back. It will look as if the birds fly in through the holes where the prop should be, and have made a nest in the covered trunk. This should be seen when looking right down the car from the front. I am also going to paint small spots of black and white on the trunk, implying that's where the birds sit.

How does it look?

All the putty is to cover some wood I used and worried would look bad. With the putty I'm sure I can at least make it look like some bumpy corroded metal. I'm thinking most of the interior will be rust coloured so it will be painted as thus, and outwards from there the body colour will begin, and be blended in on the edges by using the hairspray technique thus making it look like most of the bottom has had sitting water or otherwise and lots of rust damage.

Looks like you have a lot of rust in your future. Will you be using Mig pigments or Rustall?

Mostly MIG likely, but I'd like to try some artists pastels this time too.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I think I just have a few minor details to fix up and then it'll be ready for paint. I just need to remove the locators for the engine assembly and get a birds nest made up. I think that's pretty much it.

I'll most likely be using some of Rob's (Scratchmod) techniques to help get some of the textures and rust spots I want; I hope it turns out!

Nice beginnings. Where did you find the original picture of this little gem?
