Has any one used this to give their models a matt finish? Is the outcome satisfactory? More imprtantly however, can it be applied straight from the bottle? That really concerns me after an unfortunate accident with Tamiya flat base.

Thanks

tamiya flat base is a paint to mix with gloss to make a more flat one.
are you spraying?
if so i reccomend model master flat clear lacquer no 2015

I agree with James.
Tamiya flat base is for tone down the glass paint, it isn't a matt finish paint

Anyway I used the matt paint Lc. You can obtain rather good results using it with the airbrush. Otherwise, aplying it with the brush tends to leave awful white stains on the surfaces. To avoid this issue you should dilute it more than usual (more or less 50% water or thinner+ 50% paint).
Be careful! You can use Lifecolor paints straight from the bottle JUST if you use the brush. You MUST dilute them using the airbrush

The best matt paint in my opinion is the Gunze Mr Color one, but you have to apply it whit AB

I hope this help you

Cheers

Yes it does Mauro. I'll keep in mind your recommendations, I would apply the matt with AB. It's just that the site where I usually order my models from seems to have a shortage in all brands for matt. Life color is basically the only brand I found in acrylic. I just needed to be sure what I would be dealing with as I usually deal with Model Master flat.

Well Lifecolors are good acryilic paints. Obviously here in Italy are very common

They have a wide (probably the widest) color range, and they works well both with airbrush and brush.

Here

You can find some advices about the dilution of the most common paints on sale (except MM unfortunately)

good luck

cheers

Well I've mostly used pure alcohol for thinning my paints, which are usually tamiya and MM. Works marevelously. I already imagine it won't work in all, so it's good to know what I'll need to work with Life Color, which I'll really only be using it's clear matt.

I used Life Color only once and I was very satisfied with the result. I dilluted it with distilled water and airbrushed on glossy surface of AFV. After first layer result was very good and after second I ended with flat surface i was looking for.
