Better late than never! My .02 . From what I have read on the subject of the Korean conflict, the Chinese could feild a rather large infantry contingent but had a very serious leadership problem. The Chinese officers thought no farther ahead than the immediate attack. Once a breakthrough occured, the Chinese did not know how to press the attack or deal with the situation. From some of the books I've read, it seems that after over running our positions, many Chinese men and officers would just mill around in the rear with no idea what to do next and were subsequently mopped up by our troops. I feel if the US had made the decision to cross the Yalu and hold, it could have been done. However, I do not know if we were in a position to do so from an air superiority standpoint. I would be interested in hearing from any Korean vets on this board, of your personal experiences on the line near Chosen Reservoir, for example. After all, I have only read about this in books, which may not be so accurate.
