hey, i want to start a modelling blog, but i don't know where to start. I figure i need some sort of hosting company, but what's next? I prefer to have a pre-set account, with something like word press already "in", as I don't know how to make/build/code these things. also, a recommendation for a hosting service would be much appreciated

erm, found a hosting company that has a "setup" button that installs blog software and such automatically. it's 110$ per year (my domain, unlimited storage). is that a good price for stuff like that?

I've set up a few websites through my job and $110 is around what we paid for our hosting packages.

some more questions: I've been reading here and there about hosting services, and host gator / blue host looks good to me. any comment on these? or recommendation for other services? also, which software is better for me to use? I know see that there is quite a few ( ) so I don't know which one to use. basically, it's a blog. I want it to be easy to manage, post pictures and texts, and the odd youtube video. should I go for word press / dropal or Joomla (again, other suggestions welcomed)

I'm happy to give you my thoughts, but I know there are others around who can provide a more expert opinion. I started using Hostgator last year and haven't had any problems. So far, their customer service has been quick to respond and all of my issues (very few) have been cleared up successfully. My Hostgator accounts include several (easily) "pre-installable" blogging solutions, including WordPress. I haven't used it, though, so I can't comment on the ease of customization. I wouldn't suggest Drupal or Joomla since they require a good bit of setup and are geared more toward full website management.

thank you for your answers I was leaning towards word press at start but on their website I read that it has lot's of code line and that may cause "throttling". don't know what that is, but reading the comments there it doesn't sound like something good...

I just installed WordPress on one of my sites to see how it looks. Obviously, the install is quick and easy since it took less than 5 minutes. The admin interface looks fairly easy to navigate and it appears to be simple to add a new template and/or edit the look of your blogging site without coding. In fact, it seems so easy, I'm wondering if I should start one now! If only I had some interesting modeling knowledge to share.

your input is much appreciated, and word press sure looks the way to go anything on that "throttling" though?

It looks like "Throttling" is a way to deactivate non-essential services during peaks in broadband usage. Meaning if you have a lot of visitors at one time, WordPress will turn off certain components of your site to prevent the server from slowing down. I think throttling something you have to install separately, so it may not be an issue.

Congratulations on your blog. Your first couple of posts were entertaining.

I tried to start a blog once...and it turned into a website. LoL www.hmmwvinscale.com.

Its almost an obsession....both the HMMWV's and the website.

I look forward to your future posts.
