Hey everyone! I'm looking for a decent model/hobby/supply store near downtown Toronto. I can't seem to find much, anything I find is a loooooong walk. I cant really go too far as I've got a 2 year old here at home and no car lol I'll walk it but she's got to come with me. Can anyone help me out?

Toronto used to have a very active IPMS club. I believe they met at a hobby store on Yonge Street.

I'm at Yonge and Carlton so unless its way North that'd be cool. Thanks for the response!

They have moved to North York for their meetings now.

"The new location is in the Bayview Cooking School which is on the top floor of Loblaw's in the Bayview Shopping Centre. It is located at 2901 Bayview Avenue in the northeast corner of Bayview and Sheppard. Toronto, Ontario, Meetings run from 7:00 pm to about 9:00 pm."

Yeah I just read that on their website, kinda sucks. Not tooo hard to get to but not really worth the trek. Ah well, I shall resort to buying online and waiting ages for things that cost way too much money I guess.

Last time I was in Toronto, there were lots of hobby shops

Wings And Wheels
Ken's Hobby Shop (I think that was the name) out about the 6000 block of Yonge
Aviation World over by the Airport
Northstar Hobbies in Mississauga
Hornet Hobbies
Sentry Box

From what I can tell....TO has a very competent transit system that can get you pretty much anywhere you would need.

Wings and Wheels, while not downtown, isn't that far away really.

Yeah I recognize some of those names, just from looking around online. I'm thinking of making a trip to Northstar soon. Thanks!

If your into armour I can recommend Hornet over Northstar as they have a better selection. I was just in TO over xmas and went to both.

All these places are almost hour transit trips. I was hoping for something close to the downtown, or at least just outside. I don't really have the time in a day to make a trip to the other side of the DVP, which is really unfortunate. Alas, I will have to make a trip home to get my car for a night or two I guess. Thanks again for the help.

Wings and Wheels should be fairly close by....while I don't know what you consider 'downtown', I stayed at a hotel in downtown TO, and Wings & Wheels was only about 10-15min drive away, on Danforth, couple of blocks in from Woodbine....even a bus/subway station within a block and a half from the store at the Woodbine Station, West Platform.

And Hornet Hobbies isn't that far from Wings & Wheels, only about 3.5km away on O'Conner Dr., and I am sure there must be a bus that goes from the Woodbine station by Hornet. At 3.5km away from the station, would only be about an hr walk on a good day.

I'm at yonge and carlton so I meant downtown downtown lol my fiancee is in school at ryerson and im a stay at home dad in the winter months so its hard for me to get away for that long. i could in the evening but that doesn't give me much time to work with, no worries, ill figure something out.

i usually just try and get the father-in-law to grab some stuff from leading edge hobbies in kingston.

Well, I would say that Wings & Wheels is your closest, according to Google Maps, about 4km away. Carleton to Parliament, Parliament up to Bloor, and across Bloor/Danforth to Wings & Wheels. Can't think it would be any more than 20mins by bus at the most. And it is right on the Metro route.....shouldn't be that hard to get to.

yeah that doesn't sound too bad, maybe ill make a trip over there when the wifey gets home today.

edit: i just took a look at their website and it seems as though its ALL airplanes/RC flyers etc., does anyone know if there's much in the way of kits, let alone armor? im thinking of buying some cheap-ish revell kits to practice with my new airbrush so if they have anything at all, that'll help.

Wheels and Wings have LOTS of armour, including some pre-owed kits at pretty reasonable prices last time I was there

Northstar Hobbies has a classroom which hosts build sessions every Saturday from 10:00 until we get bored. Lots of interesting people and builds going on. You can see the latest projects from the loonie bin.

What sort of stuff are you looking for ?

Always the option of buying on here or ebay and having it shipped to your door. Or there's always people like me with more stuff then can be built in a lifetime. I'm at Yonge and Sheppard but could fly down on transit if I have something you're interested in

Thanks so much! I would just like to buy a few more kits I think. I'm also in needs of paints etc. as I'm buying my first airbrush in the next week or so. I'll look around the site, thanks for the help!

North Star might be closer to downtown. That's where I go the most. I come from Scarborough so its a bit of a trek over, but always worth it.

The Sentry is at Manor Rd and Bayview - just a hop up to Davisville and take the Sunnybrooke bus (5-10 minute ride) and it let's you off almost out front.

Great selection of armour kits and figures!

There is always a build squad in-house at Northstar every Saturday.

There is a very well stocked store in Whitby, Dailey Hobbies. Excellent selection, and prices are not that bad.
