What do you expect? In the end, it is up to the warriors to care for each other and their families. Politicians will never care unless it get s them a vote or three.
I spent some time as a casualty assistance officer a few decades ago. (The most difficult job I ever have had.)
In the end, the families just want to know that their son/daughter/husband/wife/father/mother will not be forgotten. The part that I wish I had done more of was staying in contact after the dress blues and tennis shoes funerals and getting all the survivor paper work done. But I was young and did not understand what I understand now.
I hope that the casualty assistance officers now are given some training so that they are better equipped to do their jobs than we were.
