I have a pair of resin skis I'm going to use on an airplane kit and I'm trying to find out what to prep them with. So far I've tried warm soapy water, straight alcohol, nail polish remover, and enamel thinner. The finish comes out well with all of these but the paint still scratches off and even Tamiya tape will lift it off. I'm using MM enamel paints.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the resin pieces are to smooth. I say rough them up some with 1000 grit or so sandpaper. It will give that little bit tooth to hold the paint on.

As for the tape, try to make it more low tack by sticking it to you arm or a cotton T-shirt. I've never ever had any problems doing this.

Happy Modeling,

I hadn't thought of roughing up the surface.......duh!
This is what happens when you're away from the workbench for 3 months.

Thanks Joe. I'll go lick my wounded pride and grab a sanding stick now.

Hermon,

Try soaking them in White Vinegar. You can get it cheap at the grocery store. Not sure why it works, but it does.
