Could you guys recommend any US based online stores that carry RTV silicon rubber and casting resin?

Thanks

Try these guys: MicroMark. Look under "Resin, Wood, Metal etc"

They have a starter kit, item 82698 for $67.95.

The Micro-Mark RTV is pretty good and easy to use but it may be too soft for some aplications. There is another source for different grades of RTV at the Bare Metal Foil Co.

Is it good? I heard that most people use Alumilite HS III.

Thank you

I've not used that one myself, just the Micro-mark. It was just posted as a possible alternative

I swear by Smooth-on products. http://www.smooth-on.com The rubber for the molds is serperb and the resin is the best that I have ever used. No air bubbles in castings.

I use Reo Flex 20 dry for the molds and Smooth-cast 300 for the resin parts. You can get a super sampler which comes with these items plus the releasing agent and some how-to booklets. It is only $25.00 for the sampler kit. I have used other products but I have had consistent good luck with their products. They also have a help line to help to answer any questions that you may have. Great Company. The main company is out or Pen. but their products are carried by many distributors nation wide. (I don't work for Smooth-on just a happy customer)

For creating the molds at ScaleMilitary.com, we use a DOW product called Sil720, which we purchase in bulk (16lb jugs) through Bare Metals. It is a 1:1 ration of catalyst and base, and can be "tweaked" for more or less firmness. The stuff is SUPER easy to work with, very viscous (ie, great detail - down to a FINGERPRINT), and requires no release agent. It is platinum based, and cures in 2-3 hours. We get hundreds of pulls per mold. Not cheap by any means, but the best stuff out there, and we have tried them all. MicroMark is a bit easy to tear, and the sfuff from Alumialite is a 10:1 ratio that can be quirky... and it costs even MORE per lb than the BareMetals.
