Happy to join in.
I've been once to an american football match. Before the match was half way we left the stadium. In my opinion the match is going too slow, with frequent changing defense and offense teams and all the breaks between offensive actions.
I've never been to rugby, but I watch it sometimes on tv. Much more attractive compared to american football. Much more speed in the match.
But ultimately I go for soccer.

Id agree. Only one better sport than Aussie rules ... Gaelic football. Speed, skill, strength, the works. Ive seen a few rugby games live. Her indoors comes from Llanelli, so I usually go to see them when visiting Wales. Rugby is a great "live" game, but Im not so fond of it on the tele.

I really like American Football, but in all fairness,I have never watched a Rugby match. But let me tell you about American Football,as a pure game it moves quickly, but a lot of that standing around is due to what we call television timeouts, the players must wait while TV runs commercials, and to us fans it really slow the game down. Here is a typical sequence:
Score touchdown..........commercial
kick extra point...............commercial
kick off to other team.....commercial
just too much commercialisim.

Have to disagree somewhat.
It's Saturday afternoon. There's 53 seconds left. The score is 47-3, the loosing team keeps going for time outs...like they could manage the difference. My wife and I laug about how it can take 45 minutes to play the last 5 minutes of the game.

Coming from a country where rugby is all but a religion and our TV coverage is commercial free while the game is being played, I cannot stand to watch American Football where a 1 hour game can take over 4 hours to complete!!! Looking forward to 2011 when the Rugby World Cup is in NZ. Go the All Blacks.
If you like Rugby with its lack of stopages, try watching Rugby League, it is constant action and some of the hits are as spectacular as American Football (without the armour).
As a matter of interest, do you get any Rugby coverage in the States? and if so, do they break for commercials every 5 minutes also?
Cheers fro godzone

i have to admit being a fan of American football and the last couple of years have really enjoyed watching the College version of it. Rugby bores the living life out of me it nearly on par with cricket and golf.
