Some of you have probably already noted the change to topic pages in the forum. This came about from a need to update the code-base, but also led to a graphical overhaul (long overdue) and a switch to a full table-less div-layer approach to building the page. This should hopefully result in slightly speedier page draws and perhaps some database gains as well.

As this was a lot of code to overhaul (about 800 lines worth) there may be a few bugs I didn't find in the testing phase. So if you note something please post it here.

It's been tested for general issues using:
Chrome 6.0.472.63
FireFox 3.6.10
IE 8.0.7

Some changes include the yellow header which denotes the topic creators post and replies. More changes forthcoming but I wanted to get this up in basic form first.

Thanks,
Jim

OK, Jim. One of my questions (Gold vs Gre(a)y banners) answered before I asked. Now what about banners in the signature block?

Oh, and I noticed my Aeroscale posts dropped to 1 (was 4-500 or more). Total posts looks right.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the heads up on the site posts total. All fixed.

I can see your banner in the sig area. Are you sure you don't have the sig areas hidden? (in which case you should see "Restore Signature Areas")

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim

Nice restyling
I have some notes:
- Post count is "strange" (I have one modelshipwrights post (LOL))
- Some of the posts appear with all text in bold (in two posts in this thread I have regular and bold posts)
Feature Kanpai - Battleship Hyuga 1945

So, that's all I've noticed, but will "charge" if something odd is spotted
Cheers,
Rui

EDIT: using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6

and

Safari Version 4.1.2 (4533.18.5)

with the same results

EDIT EDIT: Post count ok

Jim,

Post count looks right (Daym I've posted that many, no wonder I can't get anything done!)

I already zingged Justin on the "Restore Signature Area" last week, so it was the first thing I checked. And as I write this I see that they're back....

EDIT: The signature area shows when I write the post, but when I post and return, they're gone again .

FWIW, it was a gray bar with "Hide Signature Area" under it.

I'm using IE 8.0.6001 Update 0
Removed by original poster on 10/12/10 - 23:44:25 (GMT).

OK...now this is going to sound insane....
BUT---- the banners are missing when you read a thread........the banners are locating way down under the "Modelers Online" section.
BUT suddenly appear where they belong when you go to the "reply page".
Then disappear again after posting the reply.

Doh...right I see that issue now. It's an IE problem with the min-height usage (IE doesn't like that CSS standard). I should be able to fix it momentarily though.

Dave,
They show up properly on the reply page because that is the old system. My end goal is to create a whole new 'on the fly' type of reply page which won't require the whole topic to be re-queried again (as the old system does).

Jim

I think Kenny has an unclosed BOLD tag in his signature text. But I corrected for it.

Thanks!

Im using Firefox as my browser and the top header is blocking out the post page numbers on the top. Also the pages are taking way longer to load

Jim,

Looks great. I did initially notice the problem with the banner not showing, but I see you have corrected that already. One question. In addition to the banner which I love and use for linking to my own personal model website would it be possible to have a dedicated section for displaying campaign ribbons? I know others have added their campaign ribbons to the banner itself.

When I fixed an issue with IE the toolbar broke in Firefox. I have corrected it now and changed the system that was doing the toolbar.

I see with the post above this one that fixing a height issue in IE has caused the space in the signature area to remain static height wise. This will probably lead to a limitation on how many text lines you can have shown in your signature area.

Firefox gives me a scroll do-hicky for the sig line to scroll down to read the entire signature.
So does Chrome. So does IE 8.06.
The same for Opera 10.62

Jim,

Yes that fix has reduced the height of the signature area. Are you setting this to a fix height or allowing it to grow to a maximum size?

It looks like everything is working fine (Firefox 3.6) but when I'm writing this reply thread has an old layout and colours.

BTW, New layout and idea with one colour for topic creator is great!

I couldn't read posts in 8.0.7 until I switched to Compatibility View. Main text area was all gray and the sig and profile items overlaid the text.

I noticed my compatibility mode was activated as well the other day, but I just checked in my 64bit version of IE 8 and those issues don't show up (either on or off), so I am guessing that was more likely being caused by a cached style-sheet.

Jim

I'm getting use to the new changes but I have noticed that some of the UK enlisted ranks (the crowns mainly) blend in with the gold title for the original poster. apart form that keep up the good work Jim
