I read somewhere, sometime back, that you can mix your own airbrush cleaner. Unfortunately, I forgot where I read this and all I can remember is that it requires Simple Green as one part of the mixture. Can anybody help?
Thanks

Hi Matt,
If you are using acrylics, Windex with ammonia is an excellent cleaner.

I usually run some Windex thru between a color change and on the final
cleaning.

What is important, is after the Windex flush, run plain water thru to clear
any Windex as the ammonia will react with any new paint you add to
the airbrush.

Works fine for me...

Cheers,
Joe

Acetone, I'm afraid, will ruin my teflon o-rings.
I have run amonia through my brush before. This creates the problem of the amonia etching the brass tip, even if I run a jar of water through it.
But thank you for the advice.

Found some MEK while looking through the garage. Wear a mask and spray it through a rag. It's like wonder cleaner. 15 seconds after every few uses and your ab is like new. BE SURE YOU WEAR A MASK AND SPRAY it THROUGH a RAG. MEK HAS SOME SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES.

Vallejo Airbrush cleaner, works great!! Cleans out even dried on acrylic paint, and lubricates your airbrush at the same time.

Anybody ever used Iwata cleaner? 8oz for $6, much cheaper than anything else I've seen. Or, I may have to go with the Windex idea.

Ahoy Matt,
Really...as I have suggested, Windex does a great job, I have been using it
to clean my ABs for years and absolutely no issues. Just run some H2O
thru the AB after cleaning it with Windex and then move on to your next color or
store, till the next session.

This works with all acrylics or water based paints.

Cheers,
Joe

OK. Willing to give it a go at $1 per bottle from the thrift store. I'll just keep using MEK for enamels.
Thanks

Now, I think Windex is the holy grail of cleaners. Works great to clean glass, stove tops, and my airbrush. Thanks Joe. I think I'm going to spray some on my broken toe and see if it heals faster.

I have used Windex before but it seems that I need something better so I tried Createx AB cleaner which is good. Cleans my color cup good which makes switching paint colors fast & easy. I'm trying out a few of this AB cleaners especially when I got my Iwata Revolution AB to see which one is more efficient. Right now I'm about to test EZ Air & compare this to the Createx AB cleaner. BTW I got the Createx for free after my first purchase from Bear Air. The EZ Air sells for about $6 for the 16 oz. bottle also from Bear Air.

I'd definitely stay away from acetone as an airbrush cleaner. I use it quite a bit for certain applications, but cleaning my airbrush isn't one of them. The stuff is just too hot! If I'm shooting acrylics I'll use alcohol (isopropyl or denatured), or the same acrylic thinner I used with the paint. But, I usually shoot enamels almost exclusively and I've always made a point of cleaning my airbrush with enamel paint thinner. Never had a problem and it keeps the airbrushes spotless.

Running Windex through my AB after every use works great. I have to break it down and clean it about every 10 uses. Thanks for all the feedback.

50% Distilled water, 25% Windex and 25% Simple Green
This is the same stuff that they sell in the high end airbrush shops.
Works best on water based paints.

For Acrylics:
Medea Airbrush Cleaner, and/or Windex (Windolene old formula with amonia)
then flush with clean water.
I've stopped using IPA as I use mostly Vallejo paint, & alcohol turns it into goop.

Enamels: Humbrol thinners.

Enjoy

Thanks for the tip, but I already found what I was looking for.
