Hi all,
I know Rommel had the 1/2 track "GRIEF" when in command of the Afrika Korps.
Any idea what he used as his command vehicle during the invasion of France in 1940.
Cheers

A British AEC Matador

Not sure, but IIRC from his diary, he only switched to the Matador when they captured the vehicle during the campaign.

My guess would be some sort of halftrack with frameantenna.

Propably he would be driving all over the countryside in some sort of staff car.

The Wikipeda article on Rommel has a photo of him sitting in a field with his staff dated June 1940. The corner of a vehicle appears in the photo. It might be an armored half track.
He could of also used a number of different German staff cars. I couldn't find it but I remember seeing a picture of a German command trailer from that period.

In North Africa Rommel used many different vehicle, halftracks, cars (German and British) and two AEC "Dorchester" Command Vehicles captured from the British.

Hi Chris,

During Fall Gelb Rommel primarily was using the standard Staff cars associated with Divisional HQ's.

He's, however, known to jump in panzers at the point of advance, staying in the TC cupola. He was injured when a Pz.Kpfw.III he was in cam under AT fire. I've also seen a few pictures of him around Hanomag Sd.Kfz.251's.

Have a nice day,

Drone

Thanks guys
and here I was thinking he would of have had a single dedicated vehicle.

I wasn't aware he used a captured AEC during the invasion of France,I only new of the two captured during the Desert campaign.

Cheers

Chris
