Hey Guys

I haven't posted in awhile. Ive been flying between Sydney and Adelaide for work. I am now moving to Sydney for good and will be selling off many kits that i have built up, i simply just wont have the time to pursue this hobby as i once did.

Models are shown, in addition many of the smaller pieces not glued, or ready for painting are accounted for aswell.

Instructions are available as are decals.

I want to place these on ebay.

Images are only an examples of what i have.

I want to set a reserve, any ideas? What kind of money will people pay for these half/built kits?

Thanks guys.

and i will miss the hobby incredibly.

Cheers Damo

Damo, think long and hard before you get rid of these. I grew up building trucks with my dad, and gave away 2 suitcases full of part built and near complete kits many years ago thinking I would never get back into this hobby. Now I wish I had made the effort to store them away. You have some really nice work-in-progress there.

If it is unavoidable (ABSOLUTELY UNAVOIDABLE), I would look at maybe about 50% of retail kit price.

Cheers, the other Aussie Damo !!

I fully agree with Damian R. Keep 'em as you WILL get to them one day. It may seem like you won't but when you have more time in the future you'll be glad you kept them. I know that to be the case as I did just that when I stopped modeling some years back because I thought I would not have time to dedicate to the hobby. What we tend to forget is that this is a hobby and, by definition, we only do it when all other more important things have been taken care of.

You really do have some very nice models there. That A-10 (Trumpeter 1/32?) looks superb!

My 2 cents:

If you decided to sell them, figure 1/4 to 1/2 of retail kit price. Most people enjoy the build and don't want patially built kits. They also may want to do them differently than you did and would have to rebuild part of them. Its easier and more rewarding to start with a new kit than deal with a partially built one.

Damian,

Imagine yourself some time from now thinking back on the day you let those models go--at a lost--be it $$$ or TIME...

..if you think that all the TIME and EFFORT you pumped into those models...were expendable.. Then do what you must.

I'm a commission model builder...so TIME equates MONEY, which also means sacrificing other things I could be doing or time I could be spending with someone...same like a real job I know.
If you really must let them go, put them at least 3x the retail price. I say this because your builds look like they have been done pretty well...and there are no fragil photoetch parts, etc added. So if I were building Aircraft or German Armor to sell on ebay..I would buy your kits..as you saved me quite some work...just need to add details if I must.

FYI, There are quite a number of guys who build and sell kits at a constant on ebay,etc..alot of those kits aren't detailed at all...So why not do a search on "built" kits there...and write to those guys and negotiate a deal for your kits... No harm trying right?

BTW, you have any Modern era armor stuff ...SERIOUSLY!

I was sort of forced out of the hobby when I moved away from Florida to California. My dad would not keep all of them at his place. Sold about half of them dios the works for practically nothing at a model show. Returned to Florida and resumed the hobby after about ten years of not building. You can't imagine how to this day I want them back. Try to hold on to as many as you can, you might appreciate it later when you situation changes .........Al

If you absolutely have no other choice but to sell them, I would recomend at least keeping all of your tools and supplys and a select few of your more exspencive kits. That way if you do decide to get back into the hobby it wont hurt your wallet as bad. Like the others said I would expect no more than half retail price for any of them.

I agree with Nick, especially on the armor models. I built and sold models on ebay for along time, I know that some of the builders on there would love to get their chance at those..quick turn around. at the least Id start them at double their current market value. meaning..look at the going rates for unbuilt kits and double that. Just a few years ago, before the financial mess, you wouldve gotten double to triple their MSRP..but now , its hard to sell even finished models. For two reasons, people are afraid to spend money, and there are too many builders from Asia who are flooding the market with built kits for cheap.

Ok, you guys have convinced me. I'll hang on to them. Ive got a place in Adelaide so i can store them here.
All the tools and paints are boxed up, there so much stuff i cant believe it.

And yes, i do have modern stuff....in 1/35

No way im letting go of my 1/35 collection. Wayyy to much $$$ and time invested.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hopefully I will find time over the next 6 months, to build something.

Cheers Damo

That's Great Damo! Even happy that you're keeping your modern stuff LOL!

I've been collecting to build since in my teens..Because of my work...my models have been boxed up in shipping crates 3x..uprooted from Singapore, moved to Pakistan and then to Georgia and then back again to Singapore.. Not even counting the many times I moved internally within the countries..
So if I can do it..So can you! You will find the time and place someday to start building again.

Good luck!

...Bugger! I know, I know, I'm thinking of myself here but I'd love to have got my greedy little paws on the StuGs, 1 Tiger and the Opel, Oh well, looks like it's the slow traditional way again sheeesh:-)
I really hate to admit it but everybodies proberbly right too about keeping them, and you got no idea how much those words stick in my throat admitting that, best of luck with the move.
Regards
