I know this is going to seem stupid to some of you who order a lot internationally but....I just received an order from Schatton-Modellbau and want to pay immediately. The amount is 17,70 Euros. I went to my bank to do an international bank transfer and they want to charge $25.00 to do it. Western Union costs $15.00. The Post Office doesn't do Money Orders to Germany. I usually do paypal but the vendor doesn't accept it.
How do you guys (in the USA) usually pay for orders to Germany?
I might just end up sending the merchandise back and eat the shipping costs. Please let me know.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
If the company takes credit cards they bank will convert euros to dollars add on a .10% exchange rate and a $5.00 fee. At least thats what Bank of America does. I would spend more then 17 euros though.

If they donīt accept cards or paypall they donīt get my order - Its unfortunate often that German vendors only accepts transfer, but then they must learn the hard way ....

paypal has a one time use credit card for vendors that dont take paypal check the paypal website. i think its called paypal plus. A good friend of mine used it and says it works fine. It will give you a mastercard number too use for that specific amount you want to send to the vendor and then its gone so you dont have to worry about it being hacked.

I either use my credit card they charge a small amount for the conversion. Mostly I look for company's that take Pay-Pal, it is alot easier and safer. Well good luck.

I was only interested in the few items that I bought. I really wasn't expecting to get the merchandise until I got the payment terms and actually paid for the merchandise.
Herr Schatton is really a very nice man and shipped the items very quickly..I believe I have something worked out with another site member to resolve this issue.
Thanks everyone for your responses.
PS: The ironic thing is that I used to live in Germany for 12 years (until 1992). I was an avid modeler then too but there was very little in the way of aftermarket products or kits coming out of Europe. Now I'm here and there is a wealth of products coming from Europe.

As am I. This has been resolved..thanks to another site member. I would recommend Schatton-Modellbau to everyone.
Even from Germany shipping only took about a week to reach the states.
I've learned my lesson on this one....I'll get all of the info BEFORE I order.

I have the same problem with DE shops, the canny germans won't pay through the nose for their charges.
Most Germans pay for their bank accounts, so BIC/IBAN transfers are secure, instant & 'FREE'
