Hello All.

I have 4 questions.

1. Where can I get one of those Hold & Fold PE tools?
2. What can I use to file down the edges of PE after taking them off the tree?
3. What is the best way to fold the PE once it is off the tree?
4. What is the best way to get PE off the tree?

Thanks to all in advance.

The hold fast is made by the small shop, so try www.smallshop.com. He has three different sizes, so pick your poison. I got the medium size and have used it a bit. Can't say it makes folding any quicker, but definitely straighter. I like to use real sharp tiny scissors getting my parts off the trees, I also use the same scissors to trim.

Mission Models sells the Etch-mate and the long bending blades.
I've use mine a lot and LOVE it!
It turns folding etch into a tv tray and sitcom in the background operation, much like cleaning up roadwheels or basic assembly of figures.

Xuron makes an etch cutting scissiors which I won in a club raffle and also love.
With it I have very little cleanup.
I also sometimes use a chisel xacto blade straight up and down, on a 1/4in sheet of glass.
A guy in our club uses the rounded edge blade and 'rocks' it across the attachment point. To each their own.

Either way, make sure you secure the part prior to the dreaded launch.

I fold most things with the etchmate, but also have a pair of flat jawed pliers with square sides, try the jewelry making section of the craft store.

These work well for minor cleanup as well, hold the part with just the stub protruding and file with a fine modelers file. I usually file along the part, not across it.

I've also used a pair of razor blades, one to hold with and one to lift with.
Stamp tweezers , not the kind with the rubberized tips have a flat head as well.

hth,
Mike

I agree with the above. I use the medium version and love it. I use an exacto blade on metal to cut the stuff. I think the cost is well worth the freedom from frustration and anxiety(well, as free as one can get using PE).
