all,
Bit late signing up and starting but here goes.
I've been asked by a fellow who is restoring a 1:1 truck to make two scale model cabs (before and after resto) plus I want one for myself.
So this build log will show my method for building these cabs.
First off, this is what I'm aiming for:
Austin/Morris/BMC/Leyland FG -

and from another angle

and from the rear

As you can see it's not the easiest of cabs of build in scale but I'll give it bash, plus it will give you guy's something to laugh about during my "unusual build methods" .
Off to the big city to get some clear styrene to vac-form the windows. A proper progress report shall follow soon .

Hi all,
Thought I'd do a quick experiment to see if my methods would work - sorry about the pic quality, think my eyes were a bit wonky . Just formed a roof section to see if the corners would conform and see what thickness plastic I should use. Now those things are known I can get on with building the masters and get the vac-forming done.

Fingers crossed it might actually resemble the 1:1 soon
Thoughts/comments/suggestions - good/bad or other - most welcome.

Roger

Loving this one already. You make that look so easy but I know you really put the work in.

Watching this right through.

Nige, Murdo,
Managed to get 3 of the 6 patterns knocked out today.
Just have do a few little tweaks on them, then tomorrow I'll bake some plastic , just have to try 1 more experiment.
Hopefully this build should show the whipper-snappers that you don't need fancy CAD/CAM drawing programs, CNC machines or Rapid Prototype machines to build an acceptable model .

I love the old Morris FG series of trucks, although they are a bit rare now! What scale are you doing this in?

mOrris,
This is being built in 1/24th scale.
Not sure what it is about the FG's looks but a lot of people like them - maybe it's so ugly it's beautiful , I like them because of the childhood memory of these:

Bob,
I hang my head in shame as there has been little progress here - lots of frustration and hair-tearing , currently on my fifth (and final) buck modification - if this one does'nt work then I may have to admit defeat.
Wouldn't mind trying to vac-form now but the oven is currently occupied by a couple of cotton-tails (yummy).

The oven will be available after dinner....I'm in my own state of frustration as well...trying to make the front end on a 1960 chevy 2 ton truck and it's fighting me tooth and nail as well as fitting the windows for the H-67 mack coe...they either bow out or fall out...not good either way! Let's keep trying I guess!.....

,
Had visitors so the bunnies were consumed with large amounts of vino so wasn't really in any condition to do anything . Fingers and toes crossed I'll make an attempt at this project tomorrow since it's my weekend.
Mental note to myself - next project WILL have flat panels .
Must off, the Caterpillar Rep has shown up with some info for my 'secret project' .
