I was watching the BBC knowledge channel in Singapore over the weekend. There was this program called Ross Kemp on Gang russia

On this episode, he travelled to Russia to interview a group of Russian Skin head who adore Hilter and Nazism. I was equally surprise and distrub when Ross Kemp was showed some videos of these Russian Skinhead randomly beat up non-caucasian on train and the street...

To think that the Russian played a big part is defeating Nazism during WWII and now young russian are embarcing Nazism show how the new world has evolved over the last few decade..

No punt intended....

There are supporters of all groups in all countries, also don't forget it would not make good TV if they didn't do something stupid.

That's no shock really. Russia today looks a lot like post-WW1 Germany, with the awful economy and social chaos and teh scorn of the rest of the world. Shooting Nazis isn't going to do a damn thing, if the conditions for their flourishing are there.

I think it all begins at home with the parents! If the parents take an active role in their childs life then the child will grow up not wanting to get involved in hate groups and such.

I doubt that it's all a matter of uprising and parents

Faschism(1) has an appeal to people on the "patriotic"(2) side of the spectrum, even more so when patriotism is seen as bad (like in current day germany) or the nation is down (like in Russia). It says "come to us, join us, we make your homeland great again" and implies "and by that we will better your life".

The "hate" element (not always present, not always racial(3)) is there to give an enemy for the "footsoldiers" and a reason why the lower ranking members "have it bad".

The "belonging/group/elite" element is a major component of Faschism and actually appeals to people with a sheltered upbring quite a bit since those are often loners due to "nobody is good enough for my son". One of my teachers(4) had his "well protected" son turn NPD member (not skin, more second level) shortly after his 18th birthday. Basically rebellion against his "well cared for" upbring (5)

And most of the "movements" use a multi-layer strategy. The "hate groups" are the "footsoldiers" that are used (and used up) as decoys and hitters. They project the "stupid faschist" element. Behind that you have other groups. More discreet, more civilized and "projecting ideas" or "working through the system". Clean shaven, well dressed and polite but even more dangerous.

(1)despite all claims they are likely not Nazis since that is a member of the NSDAP and the youngest of those is past 80 by now

(2) There are smart patriots (Who love their country but know/accept it can't be perfect and think of other ways before they die for it) and stupid ones (Who believe their country is perfect and do whatever the "leaders" tell them). The latter are the ones drifting to "faschist" organisations, the former are the ones you want

(3) With Spanish and Italien Faschism it was "the Left/Socialists", the UdSSR it was "conter-revolutionaries/Burgoise"

(4) A greenie, turbo version. I actually find it funny

(5) My guess is the NPD bribed him with a cheeseburger, access to the TV and a female that used the shower daily
