Here are a couple of heads i've painted up for a test. They are 1/20th scale. I've never tried doing Nubian skin tones before so any pointers would be welcome. These are heads i've sculpted myself.

good effort for sculpting your own heads!

as for Nubian skin, looks OK for an African skin tone (which does have regional variations)

on a DVD on Airbrush use, a basic colour mix was Burnt Umber, Ochre, and White, mixed in the correct proportions, it offered a near unlimited skin tone mix.

For Africans (such as the Ethiopian skin tone) he recommended adding some blue.

Do you have any reference pics?

Cheers

Hey Jamie,

Thanks for the kind words.

Mr Whitey was supposed to be a cross between Gunny Highway, Snake Plisken and Kirk Douglas's character from the movie Vikings. The Nubian guy is based on an African/ English actor called Nonso Anozie

Ok, i like Gunny Snake Highway Douglas, he's pretty good so far.

as for the Nubian, well, the skin tones I see I normally associate with South African images. (Key words; associate, images; have never traveled to Africa)

just did some Google research, and the skin tones work for both groups.
Pallet wise, I'd say your skin tones are close to the mark, maybe a hint of red for the cheeks and highlights, add some warmth to the skin tone.

Maybe add a hint of yellow ochre to the highlights, keeps the warm tone, with out going to a chalky effect.

looking at the ref pic of Nonso Anozie, its all warm tones. slightly skewed due to lighting, still a warm tone.

acrylics? what brand?

cheers
