i was sitting in my uniques class at fort leonard wood going over loading dozers onto low boy trailers today , and seeing as how my mind wanders if its not kept occupied and i thought to myself " i wonder if anyone has tried photo etching tire tread patterns when scratch building tires . "
i was thinking that MIGHT be a little easier that cutting it out of sheet styrene . just wondering .....

IMHO plastic is easier to work with and glue. CA and epoxy aren't very forgiving and could run the risk of coming off (if not completely glued) if you're only making 1 and casting them.

I'd probably depend on the size/scale of the tires too.... it'd be more practical in smaller scales.

Maybe a soft resin might work better. Matt, that clear resin you used for the rail wheels got very soft when I sanded it, so, I assume heat would make it more maleable and able to wrap around the SBed tire.

Not a bad thought.

Yeah, that stuff had more of an "epoxy" feel too it.
