I've seen the workbench threads...

Now where do you, (or are you required by the Mrs.) to display your finished models?

I'm just starting up again after a ~15 year break, and I'm pretty sure that neither of us want half a division of WWII armor in the living room. Added to that, we have a 2 year old son, so I'm thinking of keeping them high, possibly in glass door cabinets. We currently have an "office", but that will likely be taken over if/when we have another child.

Anyway, let's see how you folks are displaying your work.

In my living room, I have a medium sized cabinet with glass front that holds about eight dioramas. The cabinet has handles that allowed childproof no tamper straps for when my grand baby was here. The rest are in a room that I use especially for my stash and work table. Now that my family is grown and away, I have these extra rooms . Seems like the little boogers are invading those rooms too. Good thing they don't come to life and fight it out. The house would explode and I would need another place to live.... ....Al

IKEA billy bookcases with matching cabinet doors. This are relativly cheep and hold a load of stuff .... you can also change out the wooden shelves with glass ones available fromt he same place. One draw back is that they are only 28cm deep ... if you´re into dioramas, they need to keep this in mind .... on the other side they are 80cm wide!!

At home on Ikea-ish cupoboards, unfortunately the fronts are mostly glass, but not all.
Stuff not on display goes in plastic sweater boxes designed to be slid under the bed. Antenae come off and most everything 1/35th fits.

For a while I displayed stuff in the local hobby shop. Then a kit I was quite proud of and that had done well at a couple of shows was stolen.. well everything but one front wheel and the resin cobblestone base was stolen.

Actually I am not sure it was swiped or just dropped by the shop owner who would not fess up.
Either way, the result was completely unsatisfactory, I will never shop there again, and don't display things there.

I've a lawyer's book case, the kind with four glass doors that swing up, for some of them. The rest are on shelves around my modeling room.

Funny how when I refer to the house my wife insists I refer to it as "our" house, but when I want to display my models in the living room it suddenly becomes, "her" living room.

On top of the case are my works in progress. The inside top shelf has the ribbons I've won at shows. Note the reflection of my Golden Retriever Duke. Every time the camera comes out he thinks he's going to be in the picture.

Model display and reference books.

The top shelf is my "shelf of shame." These are models I've stopped working on. All are scheduled for Model Shipwrights "Dry Docked" upcoming campaign.

Here's my dispay area,it's in the finished half of my basement.I am fortunate to have the basement, because it would be difficult to dispay in the man living area, they would clash with the decor.

We have a fourth (spare) bedroom that is our "Craft Room". I have two walls and the wife has the other 2 for her sewing table and storage of fabrics, etc. I have two four-foot wide 6-shelf units, a long shelf along the ceiling, and a shelf over the window that hold all my kits. I also have a few on display at my office at work.

When my small display shelves at home get full, I start taking some of my built kits down to my LHS. They have a large display cabinet there and gladly accept donations.

I do a combo of what others appear to be doing:

New builds and their show awards have homes along with several olds in a lit built-in open case with glass shelves in "her" livingroom. Other stuff gets space in one of the lawyer's BK in my home office/hobby room/ microscope lab. A couple at a time get to show themselves in my work office. The rest nest in plastic shoe-tubs. There is some a rotation. I would LOVE to show some in a LHS- but not in the one I currently "have" ; it is a wretched and un-cool place.

Like Frank I use IKEA Billy bookcases with glass doors. I replaced the top shelves with glass shelving for displaying models - references get stored on the lower shelves.

On a similar note, I bought my wife 2 Detolf glass-door cabinets for her collectables. Also very nice, particularly if you're displaying figures.
