Hey guys, just looked through twenty pages here, lots of fabulous stuff. But, I have one gripe, not a critical view of anybodies work, mind you. But, I need to have those plans for the excavator. I have real problems taking and scaling measurements from photographs. I don't trust the printing of them. At times they are at different focal points so one is not sure of the angle or aspect of the photo. I have CAD software, and can make drawings, but need accurate views, like plan views and, orthographic geometry Does anyone have a measured images or drawings of one? I'd really love to start on one right this day,LOL.

Hi
There is software that can scale from pics, but the name escapes me...
Actually... Most names escape me....

But ... your post could be 'improved' if you included the name & if possible a pic/link to the bit of kit you are interested in?

Have a peacefull productive festive break with the blessings of the season.

OK, that fabulous build by britmodeler.com/forums/index,php?showtopic=75488st=0
Posted 12/07 on pg.7 this forum. That is one superior build. I'd sure like plans for that!!!

Mr Rozzi, glad you're looking to scratchbuild.

If you could provide a make and model of the equipment you are looking to build, I will spend some time scouring the web for some plans. I'm not promising any results, but, I'll go and look.
The maker of the equipment is always a good place to start. I've heard-tell of many modelers who inquired at the factory for general plans and line drawings and, once they've convinced them they were just modelers and not corporate spies they got some material to work with.
There are at least (just guessing) 100 pictures on the web of the vehicle you aspire to build. Do you know of any yourself that are postable?

How about the builder of the model you mentioned above? Have you written him in an effort to find the plans he used? That's an avenue.

Like I said. Drop the make and model of the subject and we can help.

Hi
Iam guessing you are looking to build this excavator
CASE CX210B tracked excavator
Not a plan but heres a link to a diecast 1/50 could be used as a 3d plan
http://www.scalefarm.com/_model-britains-ertl_britains_ertl_authentic_models.htm
I work on construction sites probably worked along side the excavator in question and have seen operator manuals for the excavotors, these usually have some drawings showing the basic measurements length height reach swing radius etc.
Did a search and came up with this site which you have to join, maybe of some use.

I contacted both Cat and Komatsu and got product booklet pdf. files. They contain many of the dimensions and some nice isometric views need to start a nice rendition. I might have to go looking for a real one for specific stuff. That software that scales from photos would be nice. Anyone found it yet?. 7505out

I wrote an Excel program that will do that. I still have a copy for anyone that wants it. Just send me you email address.

Alternatively, jaypee added the app to his web site. Just search for "Excel Tool" on armorama.com using the search box on this page. It'll give you the link. (I haven't tried the web site, so no promises.)

I am still working on a solution to the problem of pics taken at angles. I got side-tracked just as I was making progress on the solution. Hopefully, I can get back to it soon.

Dave
