Hey guys
So at work they were trashing some old typewriters and printers. I busted one open and it was like a scratchbuilding pinata. These are just some of the cool parts inside just waiting for a second life on a scratchbuilt project. Check out the gears and especially the little buzz saw looking thing.

Just some ideas.

Hermon, man...I break open a LOT of things. Old wind-up alarm clocks. (LOTS of gears and springs, brass and plastic) Old, used, Bic lighters. (Springs). Printers. (See your post).

As you go through daily life as a Scratcher, you will find yourself looking twice at almost EVERYTHING.

Keep on rocking in a free world!

G'day Hermon, those little buzz saw wheels are EXACTLY the type of idea I have in mind for the front of my APOCALYPTEBAGO, only I think mine will have to be cut from metal and polished to a high shine so as not to clag up with entrails and old bones.

Hmmm, I think APOCALYPTEBAGO is gunna stick, it has a nice ring to it.

Apocalyptebago? Haha... that's brilliant! It's the Le' Car of zombie vehicles.

LMAO!

D, better put some damn good windshield wipers on the Apocalytebago to fling the guts away.

very useful parts stash up there.

speaking about guts on the windshield, some riot police vehicles have on board pressure washers with the nozzles aimed at the windshield and other glass at an angle. Defense against thrown paint bombs.

a couple of those capasitor canisters in your picture coupled with disposable lighter nozzles, as Cuhail described, would look pretty good in 1/25

Scratch building never lets you look at life the same way. Even the wife looks at things differently now. Case of modelers sickness.

Collecting spent typewriter cartridges in the office, I was always thinking that I am such a "weird" person.

But after meeting you guys, I feel relieve that I am still OK ! I am not the only species on earth :-)

They call me "Junky Manager"

We keep a coffee can on the end of the counter for all the little bits and pieces we come across all day. Dead lighters, paperclips, wine foil, milk/water caps, etc. When it's full, I bring it down to the workshop and distribute it all to the right compartments and drawers.

I have a stack of various electrical items in my garage awaiting dissection (I'm the only person I know who goes 'Great!' when something breaks!). I pulled apart an old hairdryer the other day - the grille on the 'hot' end was easy to get out and looks fantastic - kinda like the windows you get in the Emperor's room on the Death Star - but the real prize was the fan in the back and the holder for the motor - in scale it will look seriously industrial and less recognisable than PC fans.

PS
Does anyone know if it's safe to dismantle old microwave ovens? That's in our garage too but I'm a little dubious...

Hey Hermon, with all those typewriter and computer keys off the key board, you could make some killer looking ERA armor.

@Andronicus. I honestly don't think there should be anything inside a microwave to worry about. Just make sure it's unplugged before you take it apart.

@Mike. I actually thought of that for later on another project. Thought about putting the orange suction cup thingy's on some tracks as well.....kinda like a moon rover type thing.

@Brett. Yup!

Hi all
Don't tell me about bits and pieces
I'm getting scared to go up into dad's loft .
When I was up there sorting his kits out I'd come across a box here and a box or jar there full of stuff he'd use.
One day opened a box thinking he had a model in it but found it full of Mcdonald straws.
I remember him saying to some one he'd been limited to 2 straws per visit as a few would accidentally fall into a bag when he was there
Mind you they're just the right scale for pipes for the Trojan AEV

He's even got me at it. If something breaks off my 5 year olds toys I think "what can I use that for ?" so I now have boxes with bits in them

As he told me one day "when you scratch build everything you need is right there in front of you. You just need to know where it is"

dead wifi routers have some great thin metal for scratch building with, and some even better wires and hardware bits.
I raid my wives beading box all the time for stuff!

Of course you have to make sure those office parts don't escape before you can use them

Yeah Steve! I know! I blame your dad for my modelling condition! It's also why I'm banned from the local McDonalds.

It's completely his fault that Isabel almost wets herself laughing when I say "Right! This one will be totally OOB!"
