I would like to donate some kits to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is there a club, group or anyone else I can send the kits to so the troops will get them?
Thanks
Mike

An excellent idea.
I chose to send my unwanted excess loft insulation to The Diego Garcia Modelers club. Which is probably the Navy's answer to "being sent to the Aleutians, with excess heat!"

If you ship directly, it's best to contact the clubs mail contact for more information as to what's allowed, what's not allowed, and package size and weight. They'll also give you an idea of things they really need besides kits, like paints, glues, liquid cement is allowed to be shipped, along with those small bottle of thinners, etc. (At least Diego Garcia)

Things you can not ship that I know of are anything thing aerosol or illegal contraband.

It is also best to email first, to insure you have the current contact persons name.
Also --- NO RANK or Service numbers or unit names are pemitted in the address.
And you will need to use the LONG CUSTOMS FORM, not the usual short one.

My total cost for shipping 3 -- "within Navy spec boxes" came to about $45.00
The Post Office also has free priority mail boxes just for APO/FPO shipping, and a lower shipping rate.

IPMS is pretty much useless for addresses in Afghanistan. Every address is old and I tried to contact them but I never got an answer from them. I tried to give them some contact names but like I said no response.Since I do work here I could have helped them out

Diego Garcia is a correct contact. We emailed each other several times, and she sent photos of the clubs models, and members.
