I've been researching buying or making my own large case for a diorama...buying one is going to be around $200 or more. Looks like I can buy plexiglass pieces on eBay for around $75. Has anyone built their own case, got any tips..like whats diamter to use? I'm thinking 1/8 or 1/4??

This website offers some helpful instructional videos on the subject:

I've built three display cases so far using 1/8" acrylic sheet. Routing the edges before gluing greatly improves the look of the completed case. For bigger cases, thicker sheets prevent flexing. The gluing process is fairly easy but takes some practice.

Good luck with your project.

It would all depend on what you consider your carpentry ability is or what tools you have availiable. If you have some skill then why not build a frame out of pine and then router the inside and put pieces of glass into it. All these parts could be bought for i would say 30-40 bucks at Lowes... Maybe even cheaper. and they would even cut the glass there i believe.
