Ron.....yes i know, but i always fast forward these bits.there was a documetery on combat soldiers a couple of years ago,in which William Shirer told the story of Marines on a Pacific
island on rest and rec,The Duke was flown in as moral booster, and had to fly him out again
the rumour was someone was going to shoot him.The guys i really admire were the likes of Clarke Gable, who put it all on the line.
Cheers

Hmm I like parts of movies,

Saving Private Ryan - never will look at a beach the same
Enemy at the Gates - so much for a lovely boat ride
Gallipoli - ( a youn Mel Gibson in WW1) trench warfare (I'm not going over the top)
Das Boot - man I felt cramped in those underwater scenes
Hamburger Hill - friendly fire (enough said)

Parts of films.....the sequence with Mother&Country going down, with that static howl,it
matched up with real footage of a fortresse tumbling down, one of the few scenes that brought tears to my eyes.

Just thought of one since we have added TV, does anyone remember a PBS series called Danger UXB. It was about a bomb removal squad in England from around 1940-43.
I would also include Band of Brothers

There is a movie called "The Bridge". It is a German movie about some young soldiers defending a bridge near the end of WWII. A great movie.

Here we go!

1. Tuntematon Sotilas (the Unknown Soldier)
2. Das Boot
3. Cross of Iron
3. Big Red One
4. Thin Red Line
5. Dirty Dozen
6. SPR
7. Dark Blue World.....

And the Oscar goes to all the goofy John Wayne propaganda films!

It´s hard when you have to root out films depicting other wars...

One of my all time favorites and very hard to find is a German film "The Bridge". It is about a group of young German kids who defend a bridge against the American troops near the end of WWII. A really good flick, well worth the time to watch.
